Removing Hard Top and Cage - Bad idea?

I currently have a homemade roll cage that I am wanting to replace with a more "professional" one. My question is, if I cut it out and remove the top for the summer and I going to have any body flex problems?

You'll probably be ok...and if you do run into issues it would be a good time to address them.

Cages don't take long to get out. I'd wait until the new cage is in the driveway or ready for welding then take the old out.

Who's making the cage for you?
I have been thinking about a new cage for my Bronco since the old one had this crazy hump in it.

Have a couple of friends help you take off the hard top.

Stefan, if you are referring to a hump in the middle of the B-pillar (center), then its possible that its a Stroppe-era cage...many of their designs incorporated this detail. That might make it more "valuable" to someone who cares.

To the original poster's Q...NO, removing the top and the roll bar will not negatively affect your tub...unless your tub is totally dilapidated. Otherwise it is supported by 8 body mounts and should be very happy to have the weight off its shoulders. With that said, depending on how old your body mounts are, it may be a good time to put on a new body mount kit (or the WH 1" body lift/body mount combo which is only ~$100). Have FUN!

Oh, I've already got a system in place for that. i can do it all by myself in less than 30 minutes. It suspends from the ceiling of my garage using ratcheting tie downs. Trust it enough to park my Mustang underneath it.

Sorry for Hijacking your thread but I was wondering what tire/lift combo you've got there on your "Luber" Bronco. It looks perfect:cool:.

I'm new to this board, so I'm not sure what a "Luber" is. It is a James Duff 3.5" lift with 33x10.5x15 Super Swampers.

Well I am definately a LUBER, thanks for the lesson. Now back to the matter at hand...

Is my Bronco going to collapse if i take the top off and remove the roll cage? I'll just be driving around town.
