Replacing Windshield

So the local shop wants 75 bucks to install the windshield. How big of a pain is it? $125 for the glass alone, which I think is fair. I'm thinking about ordering a gasket and picking up the glass and doing it myself. Opinions?

If you see it done once there's no way you would pay $75 to have it installed. Takes about 10 minutes if you have to remove the old one first.

Check see if you have comprehensive insurance and if so see if it covers glass replacement. Having mine done tomorrow and they are coming to my workplace to install it, ins is covering it with no deductible that way if it breaks they pay for it.

Like Viperwolf1 says pretty easy. Use a 1/4" piece of rope and plenty of glass cleaner for lubricant.

If you are buying the glass from the same shop that wants to charge $75 to put it in, I'd find a new glass shop. If you furnish the gasket, they should install it for free.

Explorers got it right, that shop is not being nice at all.

I'm as weekend bootleg bark yard mechanic as they come. It took me and another set of hands 20 minutes to get it in. I got my rubber from BG, used Dawn soap and some crabbing line.

For $125 it should be installed. I paid $98 for a tinted one. I installed it because it was easier to install than to drive it 20 miles in the winter without a windshield in it. Very easy job.

I'll look around some, but I'm in Ski Town Colorado and nothings cheap and nothing else is close. My bronco is a beater and has poor insurance so it looks like I'm doing it myself. Thanks for the responses.

you can do it yourself, i install glass in AZ piece of rope in the rubber channel pull it in from inside, nice to have some help to set it into place. not hard at all. you can use a butyl sealer it never dries up like the original goey stuff )to seal but it is messy (it comes on a roll like double sided tape glass shops will have it... i would stick it to the frame on outside) lube up with window cleaner then pull the rope.... I havent used the sealer (not lots of rain in az) but have seen it done...... for you guys having leaks blue tape 1/16 of inch arount the rubber on the frame put the caulking gun between the rubber and frame fill with 1/4 inch bead under the rubber squeeze down fill and clean up excess with denatured alcohol(i use the open end of empty tube of caulk and scoop out extra)

This is the exact procedure I have done, it works great and no more leaks.

Thanks for the tips. I'm not too worried about rain in Colorado, but if I feel ambitious one day I may seal it. Now I just need to find reasonable glass.
