Thanks for sharing. I have a 1972 body that I am widening and stretching to fit on an 1986 Chassis. I am looking to modify that area also for a Vintage Air Monster Cooler System. Which is one of their largest heating, AC and defrost system's. On top of that, I have to deal with coilover shock towers and a rollcage in the engine compartment and the cab. Plus I do want a stock size glove compartment.

So I can move things around, but some work is needed.

Thanks again for sharing, it helps me think about my plan for that area.

Nice work.

Mad, Great work as usual. Always amazed at how much work you can get done with those rusty trucks on the island.

I just put in the fits "Bronco" version. The vents outlets running sideways rather than up like yours. An adventure for sure. I only have the heat operational but the motor sure sings kinda loud IMO.
Looking forward to your wiring, seems like the thing needs more than a few source 12v. IIRC. I got frustrated and moved on to something fun like getting my doors to shut properly.

I got this far for now... I used ARP oilpan flange head bolts to mount the cover.

That looks great, definitely going to save this idea for a few years down the road

Nice Job, did you use Nutserts or did you just screw into the sheet metal?

My new tool is a air powered nutsert gun. And I try to find a reason to use it when it make sense. It has made things come out more professional looking and easier to deal with.

I tack welded nuts on the receiving ends of the metal. You can see the 3 tack welded nuts in the upper right hand corner as these will be visible from the engine bay. I used ARP oil pan flange head bolts that I had laying around.
I do have the nutserts and install tool but they tend to leave about a 1/16" space in between the cover when it is bolted together. Good for other applications but not for what I am trying to achieve here. It needs to seal tightly, I may cut a gasket/rubber seal or just run a bead of RTV.

Great idea. I like the removable side cover. Are you planning on making a removable top above the cowl. I did the raised cowl for my Vintage Air but kinda regret not making the top removable for better access. It worked but still a tight fit. I would imagine installing AC without raising the cowl is crazy tight.

Ok, yes, the edge of the nutsert would cause it not to be flat, my thought would be to recess it on the panel or recess the hole on the cover just a thought and still do a rubber gasket. Just thinking out loud.

I have never been a big fan of welding nuts to sheet metal, even tack welding them, but I have done it in the past.

Still, nice work you are doing.

Air Conditioning in Hawaii? Worried about global warming? Good for getting rid of humidity. make sure you have a good drain system.

Wish I had seen this a few weeks ago!!! Just finished a Vapir-2 install, would have liked to fit the Haymaker for the 110 degree summers.

Is the Haymaker significantly more powerful than the Vapir-2?

I think they run the same fan, but evap is larger which equates to more cooling...how much more? Unknowable.
