Right way to wire aftermarket gauge lights?

Shortly after I bought my Bronco I hooked-up a 3-gauge set (alt, temp, oil pres) and mounted it under my dash. For the gauge lights I ran all three into one wire which I routed to the fuse box and stuck under one of the fuses. I forget which one, but the lights come on and dim with the stock gauge cluster.
I'm about to hook up a tachometer as well, and was wondering what is the "correct" way to wire-up aftermarket gauge lights to come on in conjunction with the headlights.

TIA

%) %) %) On gage lights you can come from the light switch so it will come on when you put lights on. As for the tack light wire thesame and you should have a green to the coil black to ground. Some have 3 wires and some have 4 wires. on 3 wire one (green) to coil (black) ground (red) light. And on the 4 wire you will need a hot from ing switch also good luck and have fun.:D :D :D Bill %) ;D

Thanks Bill. So I should just run all four gauge light wires directly to the back of the light switch and call it a day?

Cooter,

I just tied into an existing dash light wire so they are controlled by the rheostat. The aftermarket lights are not as bright as the OEM instrument lights though.

Seems to me that most gauge manufacturers can make a unit that reads correctly, but you have to pay more for a good quality gauge with nice/working lights! I need to upgrade mine at some point as well.

Good Luck!!!
