And everyone has been telling me how great the site is... they pump it on a number of the car shows on various channels.
I guess I will stay with the tried and true method of buying local and dealing with known quantities.

Bax's story of a reman part, that is defective, and now is only worth a core value is unbelievable!

My problem with them and I never went back was I looked up about 15 different parts for a Bronco disk brake swap that took 30 minutes. When I went to check out the parts were in 3 different warehouses and I was gonna have to pay 3 different $30 shipping charges. Canceled the order and never went back.

Yup, if you don't order everything from the same warehouse, it's crazy high shipping.

FYI Most of Rock Auto isn't a company called Rock auto sending you a part. Rock Auto is a single website which houses thousands of people selling parts who drop ship them to you.

I had no idea. Thanks for the information.

My Buddy reminded me of our good experience with them.

I ordered some brake/suspension parts from them for my Buddy's 2001 4x4 Ranger. We had just lifted it and wanted to replace the steering linkage, unit bearings, brakes, ball joints, control arm bushings, yada yada yada....

It was a big order.

We ordered ball joints and unit bearings among many other things.

They sent us 8 ball joints and 4 unit bearings.

Two different name brands.
Cardone? and Raybestos.

We ordered the Cardone parts because they were so much more inexpensive. Amazingly cheap infact...
Only got charged for the Cardone.
Puzzling....

But side by side you could really tell a large quality difference between Cardone and Raybestos.
Hell the Raybestos parts were so much bigger in some respects we were worried they weren't even the right parts, but they were.

We felt bad just keeping it all so my Buddy called them up to explain what happened. He told them he would send the Cardone stuff back and asked if they would charge him for the more expensive Raybestos parts. They really were that much better.
The Rock auto guy was real nice. Put us on hold for a second. Got back on and let my Buddy know he had billed his card for the difference in price for the Raybestos parts.
Then told him to keep the Cardone parts....For free.
We said, "Whut?"...
They said that the Cardone parts were so "inexpensive" for them that the shipping back to them was more than they were worth to them.

That was quite a few years ago...Like maybe 6 or so years ago... Good service after the sale then .....But I have only bought little stuff since then where customer service wasn't an issue anyway...
Sounds like they've changed huh.....

I want them to stay in business because their page is extremely handy for sorting out parts permutations and combinations. So give them a little business every now and then. Like when my L(Independent)APS can't get something, otherwise I'd much rather that they stay in business.

I have ordered many parts from them for my DD and haven't had a problem. But I'm ordering oil filters, windshield wipers, other maintenance parts. I did order an aftermarket suspension control arm and it was fine. They do have some warehouses they stock parts they get in various ways, but it's really more like ebay, a front.

Bought Hubs for my Dana 44 upgrade to Disc Brakes. They were brand new, shipping and cost were cheaper than Toms, BGY, etc., thought I'd give it a try. They fit and came with races pre-installed, dimensions were good. I agree that it is nice to research parts through their site, but I like getting most my stuff from local Napa store as it is always dependable and returnable.

Needed 2 power steering pumps, ordered them. installed both. One did not work properly. I go do the on line bitch process. End result is since I installed the defective part I can return the part but will only be credited the core value, because it is now "used"
I'm going to bitch more tomorow

And just how else would you find out it's defective without installing it? What a stupid response.

Almost a every business is like that

They just have a nice website

When you order something they have the part shipped from whoever actually sells it
Usually charging you double or triple what the drop shipped item actually costs them

Ok situation resolved however it took a fight. After finally getting a hold of the correct person (third call) I was told this is how we do things. I told them that I had already called my credit card co AND THEY WERE ACTING ON IT. Only then did they say They would credit my account in full for the full price of the pump, when they received it back. Sent me a packing list and shipping label, its boxed up and going out on Monday. Car is fixed , got a pump from the local guys. We will see if I get my money back in full.
Guy kept telling me " we are just a web site, were not really responsible for what we sell"?????? Cross this off my list. All this because my old time parts store sold out to Napa. So Rock auto still sucks balls IMO

I picked up a PS pump a couple years ago at O'Rielley. They a ordered a "new" unit out of TX since it was not a common distribution center item. Shipped to store for free and they were pretty cool, did the puller for me and everything. Saved quite a bit over what is typically found elsewhere.

Too bad there was poor customer service on this order. Glad it got resolved but you shouldn't have to do a charge back to force them into action.

While the website is simple, Rock Auto has the *best* website for finding multiple makes of parts in one location. Searching for Brake components is one situation, you can easily see all the different brands of brake rotors, pads, etc... in one list.

Rock Auto prices are not always the best. I'll look up part #s and search for them among the other vendors (Amazon, AutoZone, etc...)

You have to pay attention at check out. Check out does list if there are going to be multiple shipping charges for a single order. READ YOUR ORDER BEFORE CHECKING OUT!!

Rock Auto has the best price for Bronco interior ACC/StockInteriors carpet. This includes shipping.

I dislike their return policy, but it's not much different than our Bronco specific vendors. Customer service is where they differ though. I have had to return items before...definitely don't use them as a site to order multiples to check quality.

Costco, Amazon, and most big box stores have spoiled us on returns. There was a day when stores didn't accept returns...

This is what they count on most people NOT doing. Good for you, Bax. I have not had an issue with them yet, but stupid customer service is a huge red flag for me.

Only time I have had an issue was with the blower fan for my Xterra. I think I probably ordered the cheapest one and it made noise right off the bat. In the middle of a heat wave it went out and I went to the dealer for OEM and because they had it in stock. Everything else I ordered for my Saturn and Impala were good quality brands like Moog and never had an issue with them.

Totally agree about the Bronco vendors having the same return policy, but I've not had good experiences with the Bronco parts vendor nearest to me. They've basically had a "you don't like it? tough shit" attitude, but when I need something I need it and they are closest. God forbid I start a thread bashing them though!

I also like RockAuto's website for selecting different brands, it's basically like using a terminal behind the parts counter, but I haven't used them since I was restoring a 1977 Honda Civic a few years ago...those parts were harder to find than Bronco parts!
