Rusty

I am off work for a few months so I thought I would get organized and put together a build thread on one of my broncos. About a year ago I saw this 66 half cab on Cl and was interested because it had a bunch of correct early 66 stuff and a clean title. I have a 66 u13 frame that I would like to resurrect some day and this might help get me there.

After confirming the title was clear and up to date I sent a deposit, hooked up the trailer and drove the five hours to pick it up. Its funny the person you are driving to pick something up and the person you become, once you arrive. The person I was driving down would not buy it if it had rust in certain areas. The person I became after I arrived found rust in all those places of course bought it!

The next thing was to clean and assess what I purchased. Then I was going to cover it and forget about it for a few years since I was in the middle of a major rust repair job on my 73. As you can see...I got a good dash, windshield frame, pass door...the frame and body supports.

So I wake up the next morning, most tires flat and I get a look from my neighbor (yes that neighbor) was like she cant wait to have this non plated vehicle towed away!! So now, of course because ( I’m that neighbor) I cant move it to the side yard, I take all the wheels down and get new tires call my insurance lady and go to the DMV and get plates and registration! The look on her face when I said "good morning" the next day was priceless!! Especially after I got it to run with no exhaust!!

So now I feel the need to get it to run and stop…just to make it easy to move around…I think this is where the complete frame on Rustoration began!

I put the 73 on hold and got Rusty running. We decided to try to keep the rust bucket look but make it mechanically sound and safe to drive. Months later this is what we came up with. Everything works down to the vacuum wipers! It made be hard to see the difference from when I bought it, which was the idea. It runs great and has really helped teach my son and myself allot about these old vehicles and gave me an appreciation for the early 66 broncos. I will post how we got here as well...

I know the feeling, I drove about 9 hours and still brought a 66 home, for way less than the asking price, but it still followed me home :)
