I am starting my research on my engine build and I have a few questions. Does anyone have any experience with either supplier. I would like to build it my self after I send the block out for machining. I have never built a engine before but would really like to do it myself or should I just spend the extra and get a short block.

Thanks

Check out Coast High Performance for there short blocks. Anymore for the money it is hard to beat them, and they offer many levels of short and long blocks.

Either Scat or Eagle will be fine. I have an Eagle crank in both my 393W and my 408W, my dad has a Scat 9000 in his 347, both work fine for us and we've had no problems.

They are both good. I have an eagle 330" kit in my ranger. Now that I have a better cam in it, it moves so nice.

I can't say the Eagle has been without issue. The first kit had the wrong crank (347). Since then I have heard of this happening more then once (both brands). Eagle customer service was top notch, paid shipping both ways, took care of a piston problem I had (ring land dinged and only 9 pistons left in the country) that probably wasn't even Eagle's fault, KB. The balance is perfect. all the parts fit right.

But they did have one little warning burried on one page that bit me. The pilot bore on the back of the crank isn't machined as deep as OEM for some reason.

Would I use Eagle again, yes.I have been dealing with parts like this for a long time. The customer service is top rate and the overall product is very good.

When researching it I made a trip to SEMA and talked to the reps in person, twice.

Now if I wanted a custom one off part, then I would do Scat. They will build anything for the money.

How bout Ford racing? If and when I decide I want more motor Im lookin at FR 347 shortblock and AFR heads use the rest off my self built 302.....Your not going to save much doing it yourself unless you have alot of parts onhand, but if you buy a shortblock or create motor make sure you know what they are putting in it....avoid a better price because of cheaper parts!

look at Ohio Crankshaft...
