I used a can of Seafoam sprayed into my throttle body on my 1996 FSB with a 351W. It now hesitates. Did I fowl the plugs?

Heard a squeak too. Maybe this do-hickey is important? What is this little idle wheel called? How much of bitch is it going to be to remove the hex bolt holding it in place?

1 yes
2 "Idler Pulley Assembly" I'd say, but they may call it something else
3 shouldn't be too hard with the right tools, but hard to say for sure

Good Luck!

Yeah, it's normally a very easy job to change an idler pulley. But yours is looking pretty rusted up, and I've never seen a bearing freeze up so bad the belt sheared the pulley right off the hub before! Gnarly!

Regarding the rough running, yes it could be the plugs, or it could have been another coincidental failure. Such as a sensor, or even a vacuum leak.
I would check for vacuum leaks for sure.

Seafoam is pretty aggressive the way you use it. Did yours smoke up the whole neighborhood? Or was it not too bad?

I have an idle wheel on bound. I will grab Motorcraft plugs from Ford today. I sprayed the Seafoam direct into the intake. I will report back on how this works out.

Not sure if the 351 is the same as a 302 but I believe that idler pulley is LH thread, found that out the hard way when I had my 93 with a 5.0.

In general, the bolt unthreads opposite of rotation.
That way in normal use the rotation is trying to tighten it up. Same for fan clutches.

Those stock Idlers are plastic as you know. The OEM replacement should be metal as they know it was an issue. Piece of cake to replace.

Sea foam is snake oil.
The trouble with playing with snakes is sometimes they strike back.
