Seems like a dumb Q to me but I need to know. Cast or Steel

It's the cam position sensor. The have a crank position sensor too. I guess the EEC uses both to determine when to fire the plugs.

Hey come to think of it the cam sensor just might have a gear that fits the distributor also.

I believe it does, as it looks like the bottom of a distributor when removed. I will find mine today and get a pic.

Pull the gear for your distro, then take the rest and make an oil pump primer of it.
