OK... These two items are on my wish list. Aren't they on everyones?

Is there a donor vehicle I should be looking for that might have these two together in it? I'd rather buy a truck I can drive then a Wreaking Yard Engine and tranny that I have no history on.

Any help would be sufficient...

Muy Thanks... ;D ;D ;D

Look for a 88-99 f-150 or f-250 4x4 with a 5.8 and 5 speed, some of the f-250 4x2 trans can be used if they have the E-brake on the back of the trans. I am told that the 95 and up trans are better but do not know if that is true.

Unfortunatly, your exact match of parts doesn't exist easily.
The SEFI engine is the sequential fired injectors. That didn't come in truck until '96. With the '96 you also get the OBDII which hates modifications and requires the donor vehicles entire fuel system or the check engine light will be on.
The pre-OBDII stuff in trucks is batch fired. 4 injectors squirt at a time. The cars get the SEFI set up.
The only pre-OBDII factory SEFI 5.8 would be found on the mustang cobra R. I can't remember exactly what year that came out so I may be wrong there.
Combine that with a truck only ZF and you are asking for an impossible combination from the factory.
A SEFI system from a mustang can be grafted onto a 5.8.
Motorsports makes a SEFI conversion for the trucks.
The combination you want can be made, unfortunatly you can't just pick it up in one piece.
If you don't need SEFI and plan to keep the engine stock, the speed density, batch fire 5.8 should work just fine. And you can get that with a ZF.

OK... My current understanding, please correct me if I'm wrong...

If I look for a 88-99 F150 4x4 5.8L 5 Speed, I should get basically what I want. Except the SEFI which I can get a conversion kit for?

Now the only problem I have with that is the 97-04 don't have 5.8s, 4.6L or 5.4L cuz I have a 98 F150 4x4 4.6L 5 Speed. I can tell you I don't have a granny 1st gear.

Does the 5.8 in 88 have EFI? NOT TBI? I really don't want to go TBI.

Thanks...

Ford never used TBI on the 5.8L that I am aware of.

88? to 95 F150 is the best shot at the engine and tranny
F250 HD and F350 kept then engine until '97 when they were replaced with the superduty.
No 5.8 TBI that I am aware of coming from the factory. Maybe in the car line?
The last time I looked, the F150 and light duty F250 had more compression and HP.
The F250 HD and F350 dropped compression from 8.8 to 8.2 or 8.3 for prolonged heavy hauling. There is also a drop in HP to match the drop in compression.

Gr8...

Thanks for the updates guys. That's much appreciated...

So, 88-95 5.8L 5 speed should be a ZF? I'm sure there are quite a few "exceptions". ;D ;D

I thought the ZF in an F-150 was a rare "HD" option, but F-250+ all used ZF. I found mine by looking on ebay for F-250 4x4 trannies with sb pattern. Beware the the 460 patterns.

Parts Finder had lot's of units, but most (in my price range) were on the east cost.

;D

I Just got a ZF, The BEST place to get them from is the parts finder IMO...

http://www.car-part.com/

I speciffically went thru "LKQ" they are a Nation wide parts recycler place.

The one I ended up getting was a 1996 that had a meer 43,000 miles and it comes with a 6 mth parts warranty. AND all for $650.00

The draw back to E-bay is that it is some guy... perhaps like the winch guy from OR that just was arrested. Not to mention there is almost always some ridculaslly high reserve price...

I also used car-part.com to find my ZF in Holland, Texas. $600.00 with a 90 day warranty.
JP, you are correct. Many of the F-150's had the Mazda 5 speed not the ZF.
