With some advice from a few members I got the C4 trans and t-case out of the truck as one piece. My next question is do I want to send the intermediate section with the trans when it gets rebuilt and what's the deal with separating the t-case from the intermediate section and bearings going everywhere? This is not like a C6 and a 205 that come apart in 2 easy pieces?

There are some roller berrings that the output shaft rides on. It's actually not that bad just desperate then slowy on a piece of plastic and you won't loose them, they are not under any tension.

Did I read 13 bearings? Then what's the best way to get it back together, hold them in place in the t-case with grease and slip the shaft back in?

13 is right. I used petroleum jelly to hold them in. The jelly breaks down quick so the oil can get in according to a good number of post here. As a side note don't steal the jelly your wife uses for the kids dry nose. You will leave greasy hand prints and get busted.

The C4 has a separate bearing retainer and spud shaft. They usually stay in the front of the D20 when the adapter is separated. If it does all is good. If it doesn't you'll see the roller bearings.

Don't send the retainer and spud out with the trans because they won't know what to do with it and it may get lost. Do replace the seal inside the retainer with the proper double lip replacement. Wild Horses has them.
