Question for those of you that have installed the kit. In the Explorer serpentine article that Don shared, they mention a potential clearance issue with the lower pulley on the passenger side and frame cross member and that motor spacers may be needed. Has anyone had to this? Most have said it was a pretty straight forward install.

The clearance mentioned has to do with the condition of the motor mounts and how an aftermarket trans is mounted, thus changing the angle of the motor/trans assembly.
The issue will not come up if you install the HD motor mounts because it will raise the motor ~0.75" at the front pulley. The other reason for HD mounts is it is wise to get rid of the stock degraded mounts.

@sanndmann3 I’d love to purchase a Serpentine Belt Drive Ford Explorer 5.0L. I have a ‘66 uncut with a 2.5” lift where I’ll be swapping the in-line to a BP306. Zip: 20852. Able to add me to your backlog?

Just a bump for Sandmann here! great guy that does all of the junk yard leg work for you.

While you are waiting to get your order there is no better time to get the other parts you will need to complete it. That way the delay isn't so long after it arrives. Not a complete list but things to remember from earlier in the long post are: Reverse flow water pump (flowcooler), timing cover gasket kit, external fuel pump and lines, reverse flow hose and adapters, upright filler neck and fill neck bypass hose, new serp belt (ac or no ac), new fan and clutch, PS pump choice? PS pump reservoir, reworked balancer or new pulley, (wildhorses has an explorer pulley that works great specifically for this), are you going to use the one wire alternator? If so rework that wiring, is your fan shroud correct for this? Stock usually works but verify your set up. new coolant, and something else I am forgetting!

Sanndman3-
Got a friend that needs a full serp setup. If you can find another setup we are definitely interested.

Thanks

I am making a couple changes in an effort to combat the stupid prices for shipping...
The original set up weighs around 55 pounds and fit in a 19x18x17 Lowes medium box. the 17" fan forced me to go to a larger box size and fedex adds a $25 surcharge for anything over 50 lbs (used to be 75 pounds I think, not sure when the change).

my solution is to reduce cost is:

1. delete the fan, but not the clutch. Rock auto sells new fans for about $60 to your door last time I checked for plastic version. Plastic ones in yard usually are cracked so its getting harder to find... Rock also sells metal fans for a bit more (atleast they used to). Right now I am out of fans...

2. Delete the harmonic balancer. It weighs 18 pounds and depending on your application, it probably needs to be rebuilt and/or rebalanced. If you have an old 302 or 351 with 28 oz-in imbalance this is the route you have to take, as I did for mine. Potentially, you are paying for shipping from me to you, then from you to dampner dudes and then the return ride. I believe DD sells the explorer harmonic in either 28 or 50 balance...
Or you could use your harmonic with the WH conversion pulley.

Deleting the 2 parts, I reduced the parts price back to $275. It gets the weight & box size down and I'm also looking at different shippers as well.

I have been a bit slow in responding lately but will be reaching out to all who have contacted me. If I missed you, don't hesitate to message me.
Thanks, Don.

Just want to say I recently bought a kit this way and all seems great. I bought the DAYCO PB1463N from Rockauto for $88 (50 oz for Mustang or Explorer 5.0) and it’s perfect. I have not yet decided on fan but happy with everything I received.

Haven’t mounted the brackets yet but they look good.
