I recently had a officer friend run the VIN on my project '72. It was last registered in 2006 in Arizona and that it was not stolen. However, an odd notation showed up on the return though. It says "Shall not be operated". Anyone ever heard of that? Is my friend just jacking with me?

Some states allow you to register a vehicle but basically put it on "project status" so that you don't have to pay registration and carry insurance on it. I would guess someone was either working on it and not driving it or had taken it off of the road as it was no longer reliable. A call to the DMV should clear it up.

That is kind of what I was thinking/hoping. I will give AZ MVD a shout.

Round 2 - Contacted AZ MVD and what BD99 stated was true, however there is supposedly still a lien on the vehicle from when the vehicle was bought brand new in '72. I have the title with and the lien holder is listed, but there isn't any release of lien documentation. The original owner did sign the title when he sold the rig in 2009.

Just learned the lien holder is a now defunct bank.

You own a brand new Bronco for the low payment of 10 cents a months for the next 37 years. Congrats.

I work for a bank and this does happen from time to time that a lein is not removed from the title. If you contact the lien holder and get a replacement lein release form Motor Vehicles should give you a new title. It may take a couple weeks but shouldn't be a problem.

AZ might just even register it with the lein release accompanied by the title and not even issue a new title. The Lein holder should be able to have the letter to you in a few days.
