That looks like a fun trail, um creek. Is it legal to be driving there? Here in Montana you would go to jail driving down a creek like that and a $5000 fine from the EPA.

not sure if it is or not, i know the epa wouldnt approve antifreeze and oil pouring out from under my hood ;D

No offense and I don't want to stir the pot up but it's statements and attitudes like that which are getting trails closed. Pictures like the ones you posted can easily be taken by the greenies and used in their propaganda.

x2, and people wonder why land is getting shut down and there is no place to ride (ATV) or wheel.

But you can go right over the border to Pinehurst ID and wheel the hell outa the creeks. I went up for the cabin fever run last month and that was a blast, I have never lived anywhere where you CAN wheel up the creeks. Definaltly a NO NO if it's not legal, thats:mad: the beginning of places getting shut down.

A lot of jurisdictions are not allowing even the fording of streams now...no vehicles in the water, period. On of the two main fording spots at Tellico is being bridged over..something that is becoming common as an alternative to trail closure where funds and volunteers are vaialble to get a bridge in place.

Tread Lightly advocates that stream crossings, where legal in the first palce, be at a location that offers the easiest access, to reduce bank damage and subsequent erosion, and shortest direct route across, to minimize time in the water. Tread Lightly specifically discourages transiting up or down stream beads and/or making 'new' entrances or exits up or down stream of the fording location..anywhere..even where it might be 'legal' to do otherwise at this point in time.

I'm not implying that running the stream in question here was not legal - I wouldn't know. But I'm certain that both the running in the stream and the subsequent loss of toxic/polluting vehicle fluids in to the stream are exactly what the environmentalists point to when making their case for trail closures. Tread Lightly's goal is to always minimize the potential for such adverse impact and try to keep at least fording access open where possible.

Well considering the whole area was a rock quarry, i dont think they are worried about erosion too much. The place is clean, hardly any trash at all. People camp out there all the time and target shoot out there all the time, and clean up their trash when they leave. Only 1/4 of the whole trail is in the creek, about a mile or two worth. There is a bunch of rock gardens, dry waterfalls, mudholes, and hill climbs. When you enter the area, to the right has spike strips bolted to the rock creek bed. Since I have been going out there, i have not seen any muddy water, there is hardly any silt in the creek bed, as i said before, it use to be a rock quarry.

I will delete the pictures from here if you would like, i was just wanting to show how i can have fun. I think that we are the least of worries, I have seen many more redneck things happen that the epa should worry about. (burning tires, pouring oil in the grass.. etc)

That is a very mature attitude to have about it and I'm happy to hear that the location is well maintained. I was not saying that what you did was necessarily 'wrong' and certainly not implying that it was illegal. But what happens is this: Those groups working to restrict all access will take and only use out of your posts exactly the parts that serve their cause the most. The groups working toward those goals know EXACTLY where to look for their ammunition..Pirate 4x4 is one of those places, for certain, and it is reasonable to assume that they may check on here as well. Thus, the one picture of your vehicle on the waterfall..and one short 'quote' containing the description of the damage suffered and fluids spilled ...will be ALL that is snipped and used. No further information or context of any kind..just the parts that serve their purposes.

Don't delete anything because 'I' would like. If you delete anything, let it be because you understand my points and it is what 'you' would like.;D

I hunt and fish and i have a lot of respect for nature. I also clean up hazmat spills with the fire dept. I honestly did feel bad when it started leaking. Honestly, do you think that I should take a couple of the pics off?

fireman1749,

I want you to know I wasn't meaning to rip you, it does looks like fun, I just am for land being open to all of us to enjoy, my only point was that some tree huggers will get ammo where ever they can.

I deleted the pics from here, just in case...

They were awesome pics.;) There is a stream at Wheeling in The Country that looks a lot like that one too. Wheeling in it had to be curtailed after the EPA came down on the owner about it.

dude, it wasn't your fault. if something up and breaks, don't kill yourself over an accidental spill. things happen.
