Well guys,

I ventured into this not knowing what I was doing and got the shift column rebuild kit from JBG...turned out easier than I thought. I still have some more tweaking to do as I now can not get the truck to shift into park...I have the linkage adjusted as far as it will go on the tranny...any suggestions? I'm wondering if the linkage is bent or I did something wrong

3 on the tree is another way of saying 'Standard Shift on the Colum'

Can you take a pic of the problem?

It's an automatic tranny column(C-4) I end up breaking the studs off the little collar that suports the column at the firewall inside the engine compartment and ran in some nuts and bolts to get it tighter. I can now get the shifter into park, but it's not as an easy process as it was before the selector was rebuilt.

There is still about an inch gap in between the column and the steering wheel cap..you can see the turn signal swith and wiring.

I'll see if I can take some pics.

The truck steers and I can shift it, just can't shift it as easy as before the rebuild. I wonder if I would have been better of to buy a new column???

Bronchole, you're absolutely right. I don't know why I thought a manual would have park, guess I missed that completely.

The little collar that is the diameter of your steering shaft goes up against the bottom bearing of the big tube to eliminate the steering wheel gap. (told to me, haven't checked)

What are you talking about that has studs? The brace that goes under the column on the firewall in the engine bay? I thought that had nuts welded to the cab side of the firewall, not studs. You may try loosening that up and having a second person pull up on the column so you can tighten the brace back down at the top of its range. It might not be holding your column up as high as it originally was which would make it harder to pull your linkage up far enough to go into park.

tried pulling the column back up, still have that gap in between the steering wheel and column...Got everything else tight as well...can get it to go into park, just very tight getting it in there and my indicator doesn't exactley line up...I Went to Uwharrie this weekend and rode the trails...didn't have any issues, just doesn't look like it's quite right.

I got a rebuild kit for my 3 on the tree manual column from Jeffs a while ago and just put it in. The shift collar that came with my kit (die-cast piece the shifter is in) was made in Taiwan and I needed to do quite a bit of grinding and filing to get it to not bind up when it was all bolted together. If your shift collar was replaced in your kit, maybe you have a similar problem, but not quite as bad. In retrospect, I should have went with a floor shift, but oh well it's done now.
