What's the best way to ship a 4r70w? Also has any one shipped something like this? Looking for a ballpark price.

That's what I was thinking. Drain it wrap it in stretch wrap and strap it to a pallet. Any major shipping place do this or is there one better than the other?

Drain it, lay some heavy cardboard over it, wrap it in stretch wrap, strap it to a pallet, box it in with some cheap pallet wood so it can't be damaged. Just adding my two cents and being funny.

Also, add your location to your profile. Many members are willing to help out. Or a few buddies. IF you have enough buddies across the united states you can have them shuttle it to you one buddy at a time! Seriously, I have done this. Saved tons.

Hi Crawler73,

I have shipped large parts (complete Dana 44, C4, Bronco frame) via Fastenal. The store I use provides the pallets. Typically they will shrink wrap it to the pallet. Their pricing has always been good.

Hope this helps.

Make a bracket to hold the convertor in.
If it leaks fluids, you will have an unhappy shipper. Shipped as empty as possible and plug the holes.
Don't forget something to plug the tailhousing.

could you stop by your Ford dealer to see if they have any large plastic crates that new/rebuilt transmissions are shipped in?

Fastenal quoted me $150 for the 4r70w on a full pallet from Southern California to Chicago

$150 seems like a decent price to move something on a pallet. I bought this Cummins ISC, It weighs 2k lbs., had it shipped from Missouri to Ventura, Ca. $350.00. My motor was on four different trucks by the time it arrived.

That seems like a way better price. Mine was based on 200lbs. Who did you ship through? We are practically neighbors if your in Ventura.

About the same as I paid for my ZF5 to be shipped from Illinois to Colorado.
175 lbs. + pallet.

Freight on a pallet is not cheap, especially when you aren't a regular customer.
Even more expensive when you don't have a loading dock and a forklift.

It isn't the weight that costs once it is on a pallet, a pallet costs pretty much the same no matter how heavy, you are paying for the space on the truck.

Hey Joker11,

Who would have thought Fastenal?

Not me. That is fo sho.

How did you come up with that?

I may have heard about it on Pirate... I can't recall.

Our local store manager is great to work with. I have shipped at least a half dozen times through them. I generally take it to their store. They help off-load it, load the parts on a pallet, use cardboard to protect the parts and then shrink wrap them. I haven't heard a single complaint. One store manager even went in on a Sunday because the buyer couldn't get there during the week.

The Bronco frame from Indy to Florida was the real test. It was kind of expensive (between $300 and $400 if I remember correctly); but, it was delivered direct to the buyer's house.

I have never had a bad experience.

I understand that their trucks aren't always full, so this is a great way for them to make some additional revenue.

Take Care,

Jeff
