Shortening parking brake cables

What are you all using to shorten parking brake cables? I just put 5" extended cables on and they're just a little too long even after adjusting the equalizer. I've seen the aluminium pieces that get smashed and the cable clamps but want to know what the best/safest way would be. My bronco is a 67 with a 3.5" lift.

I used cable clamps to repair mine a few years ago. Works great. The only time I think about it is when I'm under the truck for other things. I would not recommend those swaged fittings unless you have the hydraulic tool to install them. I used stainless clamps not the chineez cheapo's that can be found at most hardware stores.

First time I heard of them too long.
Did you reroute them above the leaf spring as well? Helps keep them from getting caught up on stuff and uses a couple inches of length taking the longer route.

Are the rear cables new. The 77 cables are longer and take different style connectors to the front cable.

The length of the cable does not affect the pull of the cable to the brake. the cable could be 100' long and if it pulls 7" that is all it is gonna pull. no more or less. now if the length of cable exposed from the outside sheath is longer from where the sheath is clipped into the backing plate to the mounting end or if the cable is longer sticking outside the sheath end from where it clips into the body out to the adjuster then you have a problem and have to shorten one end or the other. to do this you can use the same kit they sell in bike stores for hand brakes on 10 speeds.

remember as long as the working length is correct then all you need to do with excess is to clamp it up somewhere neatly
