Shorty Headers - Direct Bolt On?

Hi All,

I am looking at shorty headers, specifically the Scott Drake or Bronco Hut versions (or others?). I'm wondering if the header collector for either of these connects at the exact same location as the stock manifolds. As I have done everything backwards with this Bronco, I am attempting to retrofit the nice existing exhaust system with headers. Anybody have experience with this?

Thanks!

we have them on sale right now, northeastclassicfordparts.com

you will need to modify your front pipes though as no, they do not connect in the same place as the original manifolds.

Thank you!

It wouldn’t be much of an upgrade if there was a header that fit up to stock location exhaust header pipes. Just keep your stock manifolds, or pick a set of headers and redo part of your exhaust to make them fit.

The aftermarket shorty headers for Mustangs and probably most other modern vehicles do bolt to stock exhaust systems. This is how they stay emissions compliant and keep the 02 sensors and cats in the stock locations.
And for all I know the dome shape is totally different. Didn't at least some of our stock ones come with flanges and doughnut bushings originally? Most new headers (at least the shorties) come with dome flanges that would not be compatible even if they were in the stock locations.

But none of that applies to Broncos as they just wanted them to fit the the chassis best they could with as many different setups as possible. You just have to re-do the collector part of the exhaust tubing for all of them as far as I know.
And with some of them (at least I know ours are this way) if you get the 02 sensor EFI friendly version it comes with the extension tube with bung ready to go. Since it's not in the header collector itself, this is how it's done.
