I'm really interested in getting this engine. I've talk to a few people about whether or not I should go EFI or stay Carb or if I should just go newer engine?. This engine does not come with a computer... which I can get on ebay for about $65-75 bucks

Anyway, this is the add

The seller says:
i have a 1999 ford 5.0 motor out of a 1999 ford explorer with 37,000 miles. the motor is complete from top to bottom with all the fuel injection system and wiring. it also has the front serpentine belt set-up. $600 obo

I want to do the swap.
Does it bolt right up to my just rebuilt AOD??:?

It will bolt right up to your AOD.

I put an Explorer motor in mine, but left the stock Motorcraft 2 barrel, and really love it. Plus I can always go EFI later, if I choose. If you go EFI, the Explorer ECU is not what you want--its the Mustang ECU you will want.

That is a great price on a low mileage 5.0.

That's super low miles for a '99 5.0. If I could verify the mileage, I'd be all over that.

I'm very new to ECU details. why do you think the Mustang ECU is better than the Explorer?

Explorer ECU/wiring is OBDII. Not easy or cheap to integrate into a different vehicle.

Does anyone know if I would have to buy a different harness like RJM>? Or would I be able to just use the harness that comes with it.?

You will need an earlier style ECU and harness like the RJM. OBDII incorporates many more sensors throughout the vehicle, not just the engine sensors used for OBDI.

sounds like a good deal to me
you can allways put your stock intake/carb setup on it. All you would need is a different distributor, or gear on your stock distribitor, and a inexpensive carter ellectric fuel pump to convert it to a carb setup

You could allways go fuel injection later, as you would have most of the parts with the motor

Thats a great option. Thank you. I'm sure I would want to try the EFI. But, if it gets too complicated I would do what you wrote for sure!:)

Sounds like one of those to good to be true deals. 38K for a 99 is awfully low. Is it still in the truck? Or one of those "yep it's good, just had it running last week" deals. Meanwhile the cyls are 3/4 full of water.

When did they stop making the 302? 2000??

Might be worth it to pull the heads and a main and rod bearing. It's only about $50 in gaskets that should prob be changed anyway. If he's on the level and you gaurantee you'll buy it if it's good then he shouldn't care. If he has a fit and refuses then run, FAST.
