Sitting in the ER with a banged up EB

Just like the subject line says, I was T-boned today in the way home in my '74. Just a half mile from home when I was hit on the driver's side right in the front fender and doorpost area. Has just Scheduled new paint job next month and now door won't open or close. Front grille screwed enough (twisted/torqued) and bumper toast. He also hit the front axle, tire and rim and the steering was really sloppy when I moved it onto the side of the road. I also noticed a hand-sized puddle of oil from under my truck but I didn't investigate it yet. I had the top off and only the lap belts so I'm dealing with neck, arm and shoulder pain, but mainly worried about EB and why the insurance company will do for repairs. Could have been soooo much worse though. He was charged and we both have the same great insurance (USAA) so that should make things easier. To top it all off, the other driver has a son in my wife's classroom so when my wife came to take me to hospital, it was awkward to say the least. Any thoughts on prepping for claim and repairs?

Document everything thoroughly yourself, even if the insurance company has someone do it.

They may very well be good, but their job is to minimize what they pay out while maximizing what they take in.

Important thing is that you are OK! Sorry to hear about your Bronco but it can be fixed. Get better first and go from there. Bronco will be fine and maybe even better than before. ;D

Glad you're OK. I came home once to my EB sitting on top of another car due to an attempted hit and run. Long story short, their adjuster came out and was going to total the EB... I told them to pound sand and gave them a few vendor options other than their database for parts/panels to save them $$$ and told them good luck finding one on craigslist for near or under the estimated cost to fix. I received a check 2 weeks later for $1800. Kept the clean title and fixed the damage myself. :)

Overkill pictures. Even though you both are insured by the same company, make no mistake, insurance is still going to look out for themselves. Be prepared to get 3 estimates. Good Luck, man...

The key thing to do is some homework. Find listings for Broncos of comparable build/condition level and print those out. Make a folder of these. Make a list of whatever upgrades you have done. Get all these facts together and make sure that the adjuster sees these. Facts like that will usually make a compelling case for a reasonable adjustment. Been there, done that.

Get three estimates. I suggest Englewoodcowboy, Nicks Trix and Icon. Icon should make the other guys look pretty cheap.

Seriously though, get better and don't worry too much about the Bronco. If your keen to do the repairs yourself you may have some cash to throw at that paint job!

Any accident in a Bronco is bad, but Yes, it sure looks like it could have been much worse! Glad it wasn't though Mac! I guess on the positive side, it will have to have an all over paint job to match.

That is terrible. So glad you are relatively ok. Some good advice above. I hope USAA takes care of you.

That was my bright side thought. They are on the hook for some of the new paint job!

Hate to hear this, but glad you or anyone else wasn't hurt worse.
As others have said - be your own best advocate in dealing with insurance company and take your time. Take LOTS of pictures. Commercial insurance will have no clue how to approach repairs to your satisfaction. You can bet you know way more about Broncos than they do. The silver lining here is that you'll have some new parts to work with when its time for that paint job.
If you can make it drivable, consider a trip to Magnum Collision (magnum collision.com) in Marietta for a local estimate. They do very high end work on exotics and classic restorations and are very professional. I took my 2008 Shelby GT500 to them after a mishap, but alas - her injuries proved to be terminal.
