I put a set of 4.5" components in my kick panels along with the tweeters cut into my dash. I ran a set of 6x9's in the rear, basically where a lot of guys on here have run them. as for a sub and amp, I am currently building a center console with a section in the bottom for a six channel amp... an infinity Kappa 5 is about the only one I found that will work for my size dimensions. I am going to build a sub box to fit just behind one of the wheel wells. I can put some pictures up of the components if you would like. I got the idea from someone else on here... cant remember the name of the guy though.. great idea

Ok, I started working on Bronco Speaker Placement in 1982.... I've had mids in the doors, and the Door Panel drilled out to look like a speaker grill. and (Back Then) 6x9's in the rear side panels. Best I did, was move my Fronts to the Kick Panel, and Yes, the back of the speaker was Outside, I had Foam baffles on them, Worked great.

this time around, I'm welding 1 lb coffee cans in, cut down, about 3" deep to the kick panels and installing 4" speakers there (Bedlined of coarse). a Free Air 8" sub in the forward Rear Side panel (Directly across from the gas tank vent) and 5x7 mid/high towards the back.

Main thing is NOT to mount speakers anywhere flimsy, you'll lose bass by vibrating metal instead of throwing the sound. My F250 has all the speakers mounted to 1/4" plywood.

I'm working on a Lower Dash Console, that will hold my iPad. And most Quality Head Units (about $150) have AUX in and USB to charge the iPad. the iPad (or even iPhone) is a great way to store MP3's, a 9.5" GPS Screen, Movies, and Internet while away from Home. and, the Top of the line iPad, is 1/2 the price of adding NAV, DVD, and MP3 Storage to a Car/Truck (See youTube, search iPad + Tacoma, check out "SoundMan" in Santa Clarita Valley)

I disagree with mounting Speakers in the Doors, because I got a wild hair, and ran Roadster Doors in the Summertime when I was a Kid. That bronco had 4 or 5 different Woofer boxes across the back over the years.

My BEST Woofer Box EVER???? I put in my CJ7, the Box's Face was inset, and Angled, and the Woofers fired DOWN onto the Floor. It was the only way to keep the Bass in while on the Freeway with the Top Off....

Under Seat Subwoofer

I have 1 speaker in each door (like above but without the custom door panels), 6x9's in homemade boxes above the rear wheel wells, 10" sub box mounted under the rear seat (Sony XPlod setup) with an amp for the sub mounted under the passenger seat. All of it's run by a Sony head unit in a Tuffy console. It sounds pretty good, gets pleanty loud, and the sub adds just enough bottom to help without thumping.

As soon as it comes in, though, I'm going to move the door speakers up to the BC Broncos wiper motor cover so that I can actually hear them. Being down low on my doors makes them really hard to hear.

Was that a custom build for the sub box, or did you buy something that fit? I have been looking for someone who's done this and am interested in the set-up. You don't have any pics do you?

Speakers

Like several others I have doors speakers and wake boarding tower style speakers bolted to the cage. Cd player is mounted in the center console.

I have an earlier version of these: Pioneer TS-X series surface-mount 3-way units.

Didn't want to put holes in my original Ranger panels, and they sit nicely on top of the rear wheel housings. The "hook" half of Velcro lets them grip to the carpet.

I also painted them to match the tan Ranger interior pieces so they look sorta stock.

I wrestled with this myself for a couple of years, went a somewhat unconventional route and could not be happier. I bought a UE Boom Bluetooth speaker that I pair with my iPhone and either iTunes or Pandora free radio. (http://www.tomsguide.com/us/best-bluetooth-speakers,review-1982.html)

It puts out surprisingly impressive sound for the size and price. I'm money ahead and and the versatility can't be beat.

If you have an iPhone, or just about any other smart phone with Bluetooth and free, Internet radio apps you may want to consider this as a viable alternative to a traditional in-vehicle system. There are great speakers in the $200 - 300 range - even some waterproof options - which realistically, is in same ballpark as putting a lower-end sound system in the Bronco, but again, the versatility is unbeatable. It's also a speakerphone, so taking calls from the Bronco, or the trail also just got a whole lot easier / nicer.

No speaker boxes or housings to buy. No custom fitting work to do. No wiring run or connect. I can hide it where it won't be seen, lock it in the Tuffy, or just take it with me when I leave the truck. No worries about theft, and I can rock-out pretty much anywhere else I go.

I just installed these this morning. i think materials were right around 50-60$. lumberyard for the wood backing and hobby lobby for vinyl, foam, and glue. 4 6x9's are plenty for that little interior. trust me

I used classic auto sounds head unit in my already cut dash, and 4" Pioneer speakers in the kick panels. Seems like it is going to work out pretty well. I am running a glass tub, so just cut a hole with a hole cutter, then bolted on the speaker grills with longer stove bolts that go through the kick panels and also hold on a small, Rubbermade container with the lid ridge cut off so it mounts flat. A little silicone to make it watertight and some quilt batting inside seem to do the trick.

I cut the bottom out of my center console and stuffed a bazooka in there. The console is 2" off the floor so the sound spreads nicely. You don't know I have one 'til I crank it.

Does the bass make your drinks in the console spill?
Haha
Very nice Bud.
I have built similar set ups through the years.
Great minds think alike.;)
