speakers, amps, and more. Help please!!!

Where is the best place to put a subwoofer. I have an alpine stereo system with two 6 inch speakers and two 8 inch speakers mounted inside. Where should i put the subwoofers...under the backseat? Any suggestions?
Also does anyone know if i need to have an amp in order to hookup the subwoofers. I do not know that much about music in cars...can anyone help me out. Im looking for some small subwoofers that can be discreet. HELP PLEASE

You will probably find the second thread the most helpful, including info on an amp that works great. I have one more thread that shows how I made fiberglass boxes for my rear speakers, but unfortunately it wouldn't paste in this post.

8 inch speakers work great for subs if they are done right, and my post is all about where and how to hide them.
