Spend money on mine, Could use a set of ARB's and 4:11's. That should feed your craving for not spending on your Bronco.

I've been where you've been, and I'm sure I'll be there again. I don't even wanna throw a number out of how much I've spent in the last year and a half, but it's a boatload! Having one bronco that's in pieces can be frustrating, you keep spending money on something you can't even drive. Getting the second bronco that now runs and drives is great motivation. Obviously buying another one may not be the answer since you'll just end up spending more.

Have you met up with other eb guys in your area or been to an official gathering? I went to the LEBC roundup this past April and that definitely got the juices flowing! Maybe just take a break for a little bit and dive back in it in a month or so, I dunno... Yours doing a great job so far Pat, keep her going man!

I know the feeling. Seems like I need several hundred dollars of parts every month. I have to get my engine from the machine shop $900.00 order the parts to rebuild it, get wiring harnesses for the engine and the body. Just never ends. I am determined to wheel it this winter so I am pushing through so I can play with it. It may not be in its final stage but it will be wheeled.

I'm somewhat there too. I've spent way more money than I ever thought I would Waaaaay more money. And I still don't have a driveable Bronco. She's almost there, I may be out of my league on a few things I need to fix, and trying to come up with the drive/want to spend money on her is getting tough... think I'm going to take some time off too. I'm soooo close to getting her driveable but... ohwell...

I bought a ton of used parts for mine... built D44 front axle, used CAGE radius arms, second hand front winch bumper, and the list goes on. I spent money on new parts where I felt it was more important (engine, etc). I still overspent but I could have spent easily 2x as much on my build had I gone with all new parts.

I agree with the others - take a break and just spend some time wrenching, cleaning, etc... its surprising how much progress can be made without spending much, while the checking account recovers.

I'm at the end of a ground up, and those decisions, spend money, how much and on which parts, has been a constant... well, decision. My thinking now is, get it running, decide after I've driven it a while, what I want to do and for how much I want to do it.

$ isn’t everything Pat! Besides your pretty far along to give up or cheap out now…. Take a break, Go ride the Harley or something. I give it about 3 weeks and you’ll be ready to get back at it. Then do stuff that don’t cost a lot of money for a while. Then when the time comes that you have to shell out some money, Just put on your big boy pants and do it! ;D

Its not a matter of how much I spent or not having it to spend, cause I have it. It's more like.....? my mind just shut off to the whole project and now When I go to order something I need for it, I just procrastinate it and weeks and weeks go by and I still didn't order it. For some reason, my mind has said STOP spending money on this bronco.

I think most of us know where you are coming from. I have been at that point and I kinda am right now. I bought my bronco and got it running/drivable. Then I didn't spend any money. I started planning things that I wanted to do like:
1. 4x4x2 ps
2. Explorer Serpt. Set Up
3. 23 Gal. Tank
4. Fuel Injection
5. Rewire the whole truck

One thing has led to another. I wanted ps but currently do not have it, so I said well I will get the explorer serpt set up for it. Then I found out that the exporer timing cover didn't have a place for mechanical fuel pump. I started thinking about fuel injection. RJM harness went on sale after thanksgiving so I bought it. I had already bought a 23 gal tank but it didn't have an internal fuel pump. So, I sold the 23 gal tank, put more money with it and bought the BCB 23 gal tank with internal pump on DEC31, last day of christmas sale. Wife got me a EZ wiring harness for christmas to replace my body harness. Then it was a little over a hundred for sensors for EFI. Then it was a little over a hundered for frame reinforcement kit and throttle cable from BCB. Another $100+ for the BCB Deluxe fuel line kit. Then I couldn't tell you how many trips to the local parts store for stuff.

Right now I am up to my eyeballs in my EFI conversion, PS install, re-wiring the whole truck, and little things that pop up. I am prob going to rattle can the engine compartment since I have all the wiring harness out, and brake booster out, and while I have the dash out due to wiring, the pedals have some rust on them, so they will get media blasted and rattle canned......

Broncos are Black Holes in our wallets......but man they are fun when we got them running and can drive and enjoy them!

Don't give up Pat. Hang in there man!

Sell your nice plush daily driver and buy the cheapest, smellyest pile of crap runner you can find. #1, you save money on payments, and #2, most importantly, you really, REALLY have a huge reason to work on your Bronco and that is to get the hell out of this pile of crap that couldn't pass a Vespa on the freeway. Better yet, get a vespa for the DD. Light blue or yellow should do it.

Whats wrong with a Vespa??? LOL!!!;D

Pat, I hear ya buddy on the spending money! It seems like it never ends but it will and you will have a brand new truck when your done.

Heck mine is gonna be on the road and far from done but at least I will get to drive it finally. Kinda scared to see what is gonna have to be fixed and all the crap I am gonna hear about it being a money pit and unreliable. Blah, Blah, Blah!

Even though it has been a hell of a struggle, it will be worth it in the end! ;D

Hang in there Pat! Your doing a great job on the truck for one thing and you have already saved alot of money with stuff you have done yourself that most of us pay to have done. In the end your build will be less than what most of us have paid out to get the same end result. Don't lose faith! ;D

Pat,

I think I know what you are going through. It is part of the normal bronco madness on a long build.

You have a choice, spend tens of thousands of dollars to get psychiatric help or get your bronco running. The benefits of a running bronco are why cheaper than some shrink telling you about some childhood nonsense.

As you said, it’s not about the really about money. It’s really about losing focus on a long build.

I read through your 37 pages of your build thread this morning. Most people would of used your tub as a substitute for Swiss cheese. But, you saw the potential to bring it back to life when most would of sent it to the scrap yard for a few bucks.

You work is flawless.

Trust me, once you fire it up the first time you will be grinning from ear to ear.

Take a break, relax, drink a few beers with some fellow bronco brothers, and then get it finished!

Then if you want to sell it, sell it.

But, Never give up!
