I’m going to add spreader bits to my 6-point cage and want to leave enough space for a stereo head unit and CB overhead. Anyone have a standard width to ensure I leave enough space between the bars?
My truck is 3-6 months from seeing a road as a tagged truck so I’m trying to get all the details nailed down as i build the truck. Plus I’m spending a ton on parts - buying the stereo now is hard to justify.
I had a stereo, EQ, and light switches mounted up overhead years ago. Made it super nice to have it all within reach. Whatever you put in, I'd suggest getting the things as far forward as you can so you can look up and see it easy, it will still be within arms reach.
Also back lit lcd screens like be looked straight on, other wise you can’t see them. My old race radio was that way, I’d have to undo my seat belt to change the station. New one is lighted lcd, reading it is easy peasy.
I have one CB radio in my cupboard it measures just under 6-1/2" wide. I have quite a few single DIN and double DIN decks there, they are just under 7-1/2"wide.
The CB was a fancy low profile one 20 years ago, and smaller than some if I remember right.
Yeah you can go a bit wide to play it safe. I just used flat stock welded up on top of the spreaders and bolted adjustable mounts to that. Just a disclosure the pics above are not my setup. My setup is the same but I'm too lazy to go out and take a pick of mine .
I like the front to back, I’m working on who I’ll do my half cage on my half cab and was thinking over head mounts but I’m stomp on making it security wise, any ideas?
Give Mike a call and tell him Jeff from NC sent you his way. I’ve assembled several of his cages and just bought 2 more 6-point family kits from him. His products are well designed, clean bends, great fit , fair price and can be easily customized to suit your needs.

Would you happen to have any pictures of a stereo and a CB being placed and wired in the placement of the two bars that run from front to back in a half cab? Or maybe where I could attend them so I can describe what I’m liking?
