My GF's 68, stock susp, no body lift, stock 15x5.5 wheels, 31x10.5x15, no rub even when flexed. I don't think you could get any more tire without some fender mod, you could run a 245x75x16 which is same height as the 31x10.5 but not as wide and would be a better choice if you had a set of 16" wheels you like.

You might also look at a 235/75r16 I have no pictures and I have not tried it, but I've always wanted to do that if I ever had an uncut bronco, 32" tall 9" wide kinda matches up to an old 7.5x16 and I really like the tall skinny look

I am working on this now and can share what I discovered on my stock 68. The current tire is 235/75-15 on a stock steel wheel. I have very little room before contacting the fender - maybe 3/8 - 1/2" max but they have never hit and I took it down some ugly roads with my 225 lb dirt bike on the bumper! On the inside I have a solid 1 1/2 before the shock is close to the tire. The widest part of the tire (bulge) is 8 1/2" but at the tread it is 8".

I am switching to Dodge steel wheels and the offset is helping move the tire inward toward the shock. I think I can get 10" wide tire in there now maybe more depending on the shape of the tire bulge and where it occurs. The wider rim will have less bulge and more rubber on the road.

I'm running 30x9.50 on stock steelies. From what I can tell a 255 should fit and a 265 may fit depending on manufacturer and tread design. Side lugs may be an issue. I'm hoping a 265 70 17 on a 7 inch wide rim would work out with 4.25" backspacing.

One member is running a 265 on dodge steelies. Curious if the dodge rims are 7" wide and what the backspace is. I would expect in the 4 to 4.5 inch range depending on width.

I too have the All Terrain TA 235/75 r15. On my uncut 68. I did have to get new rims back in the 90s when I first put the on. The rims pull the tire further in so it doesn't hit the rear fender skirt. Have about a fingers gap between outer skirt and tire. Done quite a bit of moderate off road travel and have never hit. Those rear leaf springs don't allow for a lot of lateral travel.

I just measured my Dodge steelies - they are 7" bead to bead inside dimension. Outside edge to outside edge is 8 1/8". The back spacing is 5 1/8".

When I had the wheels on the truck for testing it was 1" from the plane of the wheel face to the inner lip of the fender.

I am going in a slightly different direction running 245/65-17 (9.6" width) or 265/60-17 (10.4" width) because I want to stay close to 29-30" tall tire and get better handling with a shorter side wall. But the short side wall is also square with no sidewall bulge.
