Hello,

Can anyone with Dana 44 HP experience give me an idea of any clearance issues that I may run into? Stock width.

Did any of you get a pinion angle that worked well? If so, what degree? What size lift were you running? Which engine / transfer case combo? Did you achieve the good pinion angle with C bushings or were you able to set up the wedges and inner C's in good position? If so, any specs?

I am having Currie build a stock width HP front Dana 44 for my '76. I have a 5 1/2" Wild horses lift. 351W, Dana 20 transfer case.

Any real world advice from High Pinion front axle users is greatly appreciated!

Please, I am not looking for opinions for better front axle choices, I know there are others (Dana 60, Ford 9 / Dana 60 hybrid, etc...) please stick to Dana 44 HP front...

Thanks!

Swerve.

I was told going hp with a 351w and 3 1/2 lift the driveshaft will hit the oil pan unless you modify it. I think the mild on pan clears. With your 5 1/2" you might be ok.

Not the DS but the Diff is what gets close, I have a 44 HP, 351W and 3 1/2 of lift. My diff has hit my pan a little but enough to worry me yet. with 5 1/2" lift you should be good.

I installed a cut down high pinion front end years ago. When I first installed it, I only had 2" lift springs. Just pulling off of my driveway the pinion would hit my exhaust pipe. I've since installed 3-1/2" springs which helped quite a bit, but I suspect any extreme flex will hit the exhaust again as well as the oil pan.

I think it's just their rear sump 351w pan. It has the rear driver side corner cut it to clear. Check on summit. It might be specified for truck or bronco.

Good to know, thanks! Do you have a link or a part number for the pan?

We also are running that same setup with no issue and we also sell the Ford Motorsports pan with the option of a premium gasket.

We did not install this axle so I don't know what the caster is at. It feels like we could use a few more degrees. There are a couple ways to narrow a 44, if done properly it doesn't take a lot of extra labor to reset the caster at the same time if needed.

I can't comment on the pan since I have a 302, but at full compression, the zerk on my front driveshaft slip yoke was awful close to the bellhousing on my NP435, so I took a flap wheel and added a little clearance. So far so good.

Exhaust is routed along driver's side frame rail to clear clutch linkage and differential. I don't see any way to run a stock style pipe that crosses under to the passenger side without major interference.

I used 4 degree C-bushings and ended up with approx. 4 degrees of caster. This is all with a narrowed '78 high pinion running 3-1/2" lift. When you say stock width, do you mean stock EB width, or stock HP width?
