Okay, here goes. I'm looking at buying a mate's full-size '89 Bronco thinking I was going to get a V-8. Turns out it's got a straight six, which he insists is 'old skool'. As far as I knew Ford didn't go into 6-pot kettles. I thought it went, 4-pot kettle, V-4, V-6, V-8, V-10 big-rigs and V-12.

I know the Bronco II (Downsized) ran off a V-6 and the rule of thumb goes V-anything have more ponies-per-litre than their kettle-counterpart. So the way I see it a straight six isn't enough to pull a Bronco II far less a full-sized one.

I'm hoping that this Bronco is something I can take to a Ford dealership to have inspected and serviced before I go working on it and I'm not sure if Ford will inspect something that has a GMC or Dodge engine in it.

Your opinions please.

Are my fears unfounded, or is my mate full of shizzie?
