strange noise??

I have 73 with 302 and C 4 automatic. Sometimes when I shift from drive to reverse, there is a loud high pitch squealing sound. It doesn't happen when shifting from Park to Reverse. I recently had a neutral safety switch installed because the original was missing. Is there any way the NSS could cause the starter to try to engage while the engine is running?? Thanks

Unplug it and see if it stops.

Thanks, I will try that when the weather gets a little better. Is it possible this is a transmission problem? Anyone ever have this problem??
