I've got a 4 speed top loader. It is stuck in 3rd gear. I didn't hear any noise or feel anything through the clutch pedal or shifter.

It is either in the transmission or the shifter. Better hope it is the shifter.
Can you shift it at the levers on the side of the transmission? (remember to block the tires as you will be putting the truck in neutral if this works)
The 3-4 lever is the one on the front of the transmission.

Won't be able to properly look this over until tomorrow.
So lock the wheels, inspect the shifter and linkage, then disconnect the linkage at the shifter and try to shift out of 3rd using the levers on the trans?

Pretty close. Block the wheels. Cycle the clutch to make sure there isn't any pressure on the gears (or put transfer case in neutral, same thing)
Try moving the linkage while it is still hooked up. Old shifters get sloppy/out of adjustment and can get out of sync between the shift lever in the cab and the shift levers on the transmission. Just slipping the transmission back into neutral was the fix when the old 3-speed would jam in 2nd and the shifter was stuck in neutral.

If you can't fix it with a little hand jiggling with the linkage hooked up, that is when to unhook it and try again. You might have bigger shifter issues. If you can't get anything to shift (try all the levers) with the linkage off, that is when you have to go into the transmission and figure what went wrong.
