Stupid to get rid of A/C?

Would it be dumb of me to remove the under-dash air conditioner from my Bronco?

It's ugly and takes up a lot of real estate under the dash and it clutters up the engine compartment:

I live in New Jersey and only drive the Bronk in nice weather. I run with the Rampage soft top on and windows removed for a safari-like top. I've only been through one summer, but never once thought to zip the windows back in and run the A/C. I did turn on the A/C just to see if it works and it is pretty weak / blows cool but not freezing cold air (maybe needs to be charged). Maybe if I got caught in the rain on a hot day? But I only take it out when the forecast is good and so what if I get a little wet...

I'm not worried about resale as I plan to keep her a long time.

But I also feel like I'm giving up a nice-to-have and don't want to regret it later...

Thoughts?

I am sure that several people would be willing to take it out for you. The real problem is that is probably a little bit of a hassle to remove everything and you are going to have a couple of holes when you remove the lines and a couple of loose wires to cap. The one good reason to remove it is that if not used, it will probably have issues when you do need it at some point,

Right now with the heat index at 100 degrees, it sure would be nice to add some cold air, so I would say keep it,

If the under dash vents part bothers you that’s one thing. The rest of it, yes, that wouldn’t be smart imo.

Down the the road, when you’re ready, you put in-dash vents, you can do a console vintage vents, whatever you want. That under dash stuff I don’t like either.

if you don't want it and it bothers you then go ahead and remove it. it's your bronco. do what you want to it, no need to ask others what they think.

If you remove your AC system, I will be interested in it. I am in NY and I just started school at Northeast State University and would love to bring my 74 Bronco to FL.

Yeah, I don’t know why I asked…. Figured it would be split opinions. I’m still on the fence. Maybe I’ll see how far I get with my other winter projects and then decide if I want to add another one.

I deleted mine when I repowered and I live in SE Texas. Yes you may miss it in Aug but it is a way cleaner look without it, does not work well anyway and less prone to over heat or reduce power.

I'm in the southwest and typically don't have the top on from March to Early November. The heat isn't an issue for me but I have a blaster motor for the cold months! If you're going to keep it, do what you want. If you think you might sell it, I would leave it.

Most of those units can cool pretty well if properly tweaked. Insulation makes a big difference. I would either fix it so it cools, or pull it out. It’s no good if you don’t, or can’t, use it.
