Sometimes good tools can be found at pawn shops and second hand stores. My dad pieced together my first hand tool set in this way and, while I have upgraded some over the years, I still have most of those tools in my spare box/trail kit over 30 years later.

Get a 40$ electric impact and a 20$ set of impact sockets from harbor freight I was surprised at how much power it has and really comes in handy for removing wheels and I used mine alot when doing the rear leafs on my 69. Good luck if you do leafs have help and a whole day. Take the shakles off before the big day and have new shackle bushings installed at an auto shop. Need machines for this only. Get a good torque wrench not from harbor freight.

Welcome to the madness......Who ever said that hit the nail on the head!! I've been fooling around with these things for over 10 years now, but my stable is just down to 1 lone Bronco... I'm in the Spring area, but hopefully closing on a new house at the end of the month in Cypress.(Eldridge/Cypresswood area. gotta few tools, a lot of leftover parts and they are scattered all over Sout and Central Texas...

That's a great story right there! I wonder if there's a thread around here showing the tools that either our dads had, or got for us, are showcased?
Sounds like it would be a good one. Especially with an award for the strangest, handiest, cheapest, most repaired/taped/wired and memorable tool too! ;D

Thanks all for the warm welcome. Will put some pics up today.

I'm in West U so the Heights is very doable for beer and burger at Christian's or some other local.

U don't have to twist my arm very hard for a trip to the gingerman, the only drawback is no dedicated parking.

Gingerman's always a no-brainer for me, particularly as I know my bronco can get that far and back. On street parking post Xmas generally not a problem if get there around opening time, and there's always the pay to park lot on the other side of the Irish bar that's generally vacant.

Right, so a wildly old thread, but I was posted to Singapore shortly after putting the girl in for a cosmetic overhaul...she got the full work up so doors now close (mostly), paint is shiny and she looks mean standing still...which is usually what she does. I'm back in (West U) Houston and starting to work through the storage bugs. E-10 fuel is not nice when left to sit for a couple years, but have had some seals replaced and tank polished. Trying to get the tuning right (thinking of going to electronic ignition...any thoughts?) and replacing starter solenoid tomorrow (left side stud too short on the one I bought at o'reilly's today). Bit of a list of honey-do's from when I bought her still and some new ones as dry rot took hold while in storage, but keen to get this thing on the road properly. What I'd really like to ask is what those in Houston have done to theirs, whether rest-mod or outright restoration, so I can figure a plan with mine. I'm tired of paying a garage to 'sort of' get mine going only to have to go back the next week...i could be expecting too much, but i don't think i am considering the posts i read and envy.

Anyhooters....long and short is, who's first to accept my invitation for a beer? I know I've seen an uncut blue with white top rolling around my neighborhood!

I'm not a mechanic or an expert but I'll check it out for you. Can it make the drive to Washington Avenue and Studemont? If not I can meet you closer to West U. PM me and we will find a time.
