question on the power steering cooler- is the 96 ford explorer 5.0 a good power steering cooler to use or should i pick as different one? i already have the 96 explorer one...

i also have a OE bronco power steering cooler but its really tiny lol

coolers seem to be reasonably priced so wondering if i should buy a new/bigger/better one? any other suitable ones i can grab from P n P?

thanks

If your rig's tire sizes still match what I see in your avatar, I think something sized like the stock EB cooler should be just fine. I'm not sure what the 96 Explorer one looks like offhand.

Todd,

This is my current build
67
5.0 explorer/ax15/dana20
3.5" SL 1"BL
33x12.50x15

also the explorer cooler - kind thinking for what its worth go looking for a bigger one?

the one in my avatar is my mostly stock 1966 170 missing all the 66 goodies except for the eyebrow grill lol. bought not built.

I think that year Exploder has a nice stacked plate design. I remember seeing a couple Expl yrs ago...if I remember correctly...

Bigger is always better if you can although like Todd said, I'm sure the one you have will be adequate unless you put on a ram, add some big tires and run trails

if you guys think this exploder one in the pic is good for my 33x12.50x15's then I'm going to run with it.

where is the best place to mount it? front of rad or under rad? seems like a lot of guys are mounting them under the rad...

What are the dimensions?

Any cooler that has air forced through it by a fan is better than a cooler that relies on your vehicle moving to force air through it.

When you are working the strg the hardest, usually slow moving between the rocks on a trail you are moving 1mph or less...very little air is moving thru the cooler.

Put it in front of the radiator for max cooling. Don't be afraid of "fake news" :) that says it will make your engine overheat by blocking the radiator.

Check any new car/truck and there are a variety of coolers almost blocking the radiator and they still cool with a properly designed cooling system.

Stacked mine on top of the trans cooler in front of the radiator, as mentioned above, with no issues. Derale# 13200.

the 96 explorer PS cooler core dimensions are 8"x2" not quit as wide as the one badandy posted.

With the tire size you quoted, I'd use it. I use a stacked plate cooler from Super Duty on mine (not a lot bigger than the one you have) aas well as an Econoline cooler and they've done fine with 33" and 35" tires. Never overheated the fluid as far as I can tell.
