Synthetic fuels as clean as an EV?

I hope someone can get hydrogen figured out. I did kinda giggle though when I saw it was hydrogen based. Nikola has been trying to get hydrogen figured out for the last 5 years, no sure how much headway they have made. Most of my start up jumping friends currently work there. I am surprised ole Elon hasn't dipped his toe in the Hindenburg fuel.

I am currently contracted by Nikola so I can't discuss it but I am very confident they will have a viable solution soon.

Interesting Porsche is doing this, I remember reading Porsche claimed they had designed their last ICE a year or so ago, they were going all electric. I really think they made that statement because they realized a tesla could kick their butt, not because pollution is bad.. Just maybe a realization of what the article states, ICE is here to stay, and an EV just transfers pollution to the mines making the batteries and the power plants making the electricity.

I think it is Honda that has a semi running around the Long Beach port hauling good off ships. I really like the way they are doing the technology. Fuel cell charging batteries. You can get the quick refuel, but the surge capacity of electric to get moving.

One thing is for sure, this is really pushing technology faster than it would have if not for Tesla stirring the pot.

Not really. It is your cell phone that is causing the push in technology. From the battery to the rare earth magnets used in the speakers and vibrate setting for the ringer. Cell phones pushed the technology, the trickle down effect went into the cars.

I agree with you about that but my point being the auto industry needed a push to get out of their own way and Tesla did the shoving.

Giving Tesla too much credit. They really didn't push the technology by engineering. They picked it up and pushed it on the customer. The first cars were a POS. Even there current cars are a POS, just with a lot of bling. I know people that have them. Stuff is always broken, but they don't care, it's a Tesla. There got to be a halo with the Tesla brand that makes people ignore all the problems. The technology is poorly refined and the testing is done on the customer. You don't want to buy one that is 10 years old off a used car lot.

In my opinion, that is one of the most cost effective ways to push technology. A cult following that "doesn't care" if something is broken but is also creating data on other technological advancements at the same time is a win win. I don't want to turn this into a Elon fan boy debate, he uses plenty of fossil fuels to launch rockets so an alternative fuel is always a solid advancement. Whether Elon, Porsche, Trevor's gang, or Russia gets there first its a good thing. Also all the old timers can't complain that hot rodding is dead either.

None of this is new. The Natzis were doing this in WW2. They made hydrogen from wood. They called it Holzgas. So now this 80+ yr. old "technology" is cutting edge.

I recall watching a tech video where a company disassembled a Tesla to see how it was made. Mainly an Insurance company need, they need to know how long it really takes to fix and what can get hurt.

Seems the report on Tesla is the electric's as superior to anything on the road. However, the body/frame, is made the way they built cars in the 60's.

I know a couple folks with Tesla, they love them, and yes about once a year they lose their car for weeks, and in one case 3 months to repairs, all covered. They didn't mind because guess what, Tesla gave them a free loaner of equal or far better value.
