Finally have some what of a resolution to my gauge problem on my 66. I have two of three gauges working oil and fuel.. AS soon as I put power to temp gauge it shorts out the ivr. The gauge is brand new and works off a 9 volt battery. Could it still be the gauge or possible short in sending unit wire? Going to replace sending unit wire tomorrow but wondering how i can check the gauge so i avoid buying another ivr.. thanks
Unplug the temp sensor wire at gauge check for power+ on that wire key off and key on ,,If no power then it's NOT shorted to power,,,,,
if there's power then you need to trace the wiring and figure out why..
the sensor wire is a path to ground through the sender ...so that wire shorted to ground Wouldn't cause the problem your having..
So your gauges work {except temp} with temp gauge power feed wire disconnected then if you connect power feed to temp gauge the IVR burns up,correct??If so then you need to look at your gauge install to the cluster housing for continuity between the battery feed post of temp gauge to gauge cluster housing should be open circuit...if continuity then slightly loosen nuts that fasten temp gauge and recheck continuity ...I'm thinking your gauge feed side is shorted to the gauge cluster housing,,
