Since I'm keeping the Bronco, I will continue to work on it. At some point, probably after moving to a place with four seasons and that has a garage, it will be torn down for a frame-off.

Totally misrepresented by seller:

Here's what I purchased:

"COMPLETE RESTORATION!"

What Was Advertised............................................................................................Reality

1973 Bronco Sport........................................................................................................ACTUALLY! IT's A 1974! (Thanks unscrupulous seller!)

4x4..............................................................................................................................Transfer case didn't work in 4 Hi or 4 Lo

Power Steering..............................................................................................................Pump was groaning moaning and DOA. Had to be replaced.

Good Brakes! .....................................................................................................Hard line to pass front was CRUSHED! Left front brake didn't work at all
...................................................................................................................................Rear Brakes were shot and had to be totally redone
...................................................................................................................................(Brake warning light was on. DB said "it's just the light. Only needs to be reset) Moron!

New Exhaust!...............................................................................................................Headers rusted through. intermediate pipes rusted through. Mufflers had GIANT holes in them. Pipes from ...................................................................................................................................only mufflers back were "new"

302 2v with only has 35,000 original miles....................................................................... engine had been bored .030 over

2" Suspension Lift.........................................................................................................No lift at all. Just the fenders had been cut really high up.

New seats ...................................................................................................................WERE. NOT. BOLTED. IN! No seat belts!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------no seat belts
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Rear Seat was old, dirty, moldy and torn. Frame was rusted.

NEW 33" BFG M/Ts.......................................................................................................Dry rotted and cracked on the sidewalls, chunks missing.

Rollbar.........................................................................................................................NO BOLTS! NO WELDS! It was just "screwed" in with 1/2" sheet metal screws! REAL SAFE!

New Heater Core...........................................................................................................Awesome. BUT! Heater fan didn't work. Temp control wasn't even hooked up.

NO RUST..................................................................................................................... Both floor pans rusted (had to be replaced). Cowl rusted and covered with diamond plate.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Wheel wells rusted. Covered with bondo and bed liner
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Hard Top completely rusted and unsalvageable
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Frame where steering box attaches, RUSTED THROUGH! everytime I turned right, the frame bent.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------It finally broke. Frame had to be cut and a new piece welded in. Added a steering box reinforcement kit.

All new lights.................................................................................................................Gauge lights didn't work. turn signals didn't work. reverse lights didn't work. Headlights only worked on high.

All Gauges Work............................................................................................................Gas gauge and Alt. gauges didn't work at all

Dual Gas tanks..............................................................................................................Aux tank had a crack on the inboard side about 1" up from the bottom. It ran the entire length of the tank.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------After putting about 2 gallons of gas in it, gas started POURING out of the underside of the tank. REAL SAFE!

All New Weatherstripping................................................................................................
attachment.php

New Stereo CD Player.....................................................................................................Didn't work. Wasn't hooked up. Wouldn't work if it did.

Plus
*Door locks wouldn't open with keys
*Bedliner sprayed everywhere underneath, including on the brakes (had to clean it off just to bleed the brakes
* choke cable was actually run through the firewall, then turned went back into the firewall and connected to the heater.
* Battery had no "hold down" and was flopping around.
* "New seats" were stuck and would not slide
* Windshield wipers worked sporadically.
* Starter was shot. It took 3 or 4 attempts before it would engage

he not even close to a post whore!

Thus why I said "bit" of a post whore. He hasn't reached the top level of post whoredom just yet, but is well on the way. Not saying it's a bad thing. ;D

So how did the body lift and roll bar fix turn out?

Turned out good. Genius PO used TINY screws to mount it. I yanked hard on the par and it pulled right out.

So, I drilled bigger holes. Used Grade 8 bolts and nuts with large washers. It's not as safe as it could be, but I feel much, much better about it.

Got out all the body mounts today. Took some pics. I'm thinking about writing a tech article on how to / how not to get these out, especially for people with limited tools.

This is what I looked like after a day of wrenching:

Starting on the BCB tank. Started with this (pic), cleaned all the crap and rust from the frame and sprayed it with rust reformer. I'll post a pic of that later.

Also, PO aka "Jerk Weed" (from Die Hard) used little screws to hold in the roll bars. Don't know if that's correct or not, but I didn't like it. So I pulled them and installed some Grade 8 bolts with large washers underneath. I can't weld and have no welding equip, so this seemed like the next best thing to do.

Do these screws make sense to you?
