After sitting for 3 years, my bronco is running!!! Started right up. I adjusted the idle a bit. Ran for about 10 minutes, then died. Then the battery was dead (9 volts). Brand new battery. So, either something is draining the battery, or my ancient alternator and it's horrible wiring has finally succumbed to age. I'll deal with that tomorrow.

It's Running!

Wires are cut? %) ?:? ;) Looks like my 20+ year old alt. Did I read somewhere that you're gonna drive this out to the west coast in a few weeks?

I wish. I've actually never had it on the highway or above 45. Don't trust what the PO/Builder did and I'm scared the steering or suspension will come apart! Nope, we're flying out and renting a car :-[ Will land in Portland on the 15th.

HC - Just a sock? What about some bondo?

I gotta start posting more pics of what I'm doing!

Got the idea for a different kind of rad. overflow tank from a post on here. I didn't want one of the standard types and I didn't want it to be prominent in my engine bay.

So I ordered an unfilled fire extinguisher off ebay. It was only like $12! So I'll tap the bottom for filling and I'll figure out something for the top (to overflow onto Al Gore's green earth if it needs to). Although, now that I look at it, it is a little bigger than I thought. Hmmmmm. Might have to get creative. If it's too big, I'll use it as an actual fire extinguisher and get a smaller one for the rad.

Cut the hose at an angle so it doesn't suction itself to the bottom of the tank.

Great idea on the Extinguisher, looks good.

I wish I could take credit for the idea, but I got it from someone on here. Not as good as the gin bottle version, but still a cool idea!

I didn't cut it at an angle because that would be easy and I'm stupid. So, I cut a rectangular chunk out. :-[:p;D

New 3G alternator arrived from RJM. As soon as it stops raining I'll get it in and take some pics. Once that's in and I get the engine tuned a little better, it's time for the street for the first time in 3 years!

In the meantime, my birthday was yesterday and my awesome wife got me a one hour massage at this spa place. So that's what I've been doing this morning. It was awesome!

Had some problems getting spark to the dizzy. With lots of help, got it worked out. Just about everything I read said that with a Pertronix ignitor, you don't need a ballast resister for the coil. Apparently that was wrong. Hooked up the ballast resister to the coil, ran 12v to the dizzy, and she fired right up.

Now I need to figure out my carb issues. first it was getting too much gas in the carb, so I adjusted the floats. now it's running rough, white "smoke" coming out of the pipes, and it smells awful.

Well, I'll tackle that when I get back from Oregon!

Finally got all the wiring re-done (under hood) I think my fuel pressure sensor for the elect fuel pump isn't working. Oh well. I wired the pump direct.

Carb is getting too much fuel and is flooding the engine. It runs good for a few minutes, then slowly starts to sputter, spew fumes and die. When it dies, I can see gas oozing down into the carb. I've rebuilt the carb and adjusted the floats so my next attempt will be to find a pressure regulator and see if that helps.
