What I was told, was double the size of what you want!!! I have a 24' X 40' workshop.....originally was going to be 20' X 20'. Size is just about right. My father-in-law has a 60' X 100' (about 1/3 is his shop, remainder is storage) and the running joke is: When we going to build your NEW building!!! Not close to being big enough for him.

Pops

yup always go bigger...you'll be amazed how fast it will fill up with stuff

So, the shop is now built and I'm quite happy with how it turned out. Still trying to finish the inside and buy the tools and equipment I want, but at least the Broncos are out of the weather. Thanks again for all the great ideas. I wasn't able to take every piece of advice, due to budgetary constraints, but I did use a lot of your suggestions.

WOW that looks awesome - have any more details on sizing and proportions of that loft area? I'm going to to stuck with a ~30x40 shop next to the house and I plan on building this or next year.

Thanks! It’s 12x40, which is a lot bigger than I imagined. I could have made a bedroom or office up there and still had enough space for storage. Overall, I’m very happy with it. I can take more pictures of the loft if you want.

That would be great! That space looks much larger than I anticipated, I'm worried about my 30x40, but looking at that I may not be anymore... I have always envisioned something similar to that though. Workbenches along the back with a mezzanine above with storage.

I'll get them taken tonight when I get home

Thank you so much! That looks excellent! Now I've got to tweak my plans, but I love that storage option - I'm thinking it would be nice to use half of it for storage and the other half for office space with a window overlooking my junk (I mean projects :D)
