CHeck teh tire patch on the ground. chalk the tread then roll the tire. You should see all the chalk go away. otherwise you are just running the center of the tread with an over inflated tire. 25 to 30 is where mine are the most comfortable. Different manufacturers are a little different in the sidewall strength. the difference in front to rear pressure is simply pounds per square inch by weight of the vehicle. Run across a scale and see the difference from front to rear. Especially topless.
Exactly! I have 33" BFG's and run 26 in the back and 29 in the front. That gives me a good flat tread patch and no squirrelyness on the street. Different tires will be different obviously so just experiment.
At 30+ psi I really start to notice the ride to be a little stiffer. Too low into the 20's and I can feel it getting squirrely on the street.
Ofcourse airing down off road is great since it makes the trail so much smoother and widens your foot print for better traction.
You can use the chalk method as described above or a patch of wet driveway that will cause you to leave a wet tire tread on the dry ground.
This will make it obvious if your running too much pressure.
It takes some time to narrow down the right pressure but the result is longer tread life and a much better ride!
Good luck.
