What about the dipstick tubing, will the factory one from a explorer work?

Reviving an old thread here. Hopefully I get lucky.

So the OP mentioned he is using the 50-2704E advance adapter. I need to use the 50-2704A adapter, which is the 4x4 version for the 4R70W using the original output shaft.

Now onto my question... is anyone using the Tom's Bronco Cross Member kit for the adapter that I'll be using (50-2704A) ?

Thanks
Kev

So I am going through this right now with another build... The cross member kit is used on both, there is no difference. At least that is what Tom's said this week when I had a discussion about the two kits... And that conversation came about after a long discussion with Steve on the Tech line at AA...
The extra length of the 4x4 tranny AA adapter to the D20 is 1.4". That comes from the extra clocking ring used. This doesn't affect the placement of the trans support as the ring is after the mounting point to the frame.

Clear as mud, I hope... Doug

So basically I wouldn’t even have to drill new holes on my frame since the clocking ring is all after the mounting point? Just trying to clear this up as much as I can. Also will you be using the Tom’s Bronco cross member kit?

Not using Tom's kit, made my own brackets.

Not really sure how you plan to drill new holes in the frame?? The metal is not thick enough to hold threads.

BC Broncos has a nice crossmember that will work for the Atlas II. Its not a direct bolt in though. At least not for me. I had to change the tail housing to a F-150 one. The Explorer one was just too high. My trans mount would have been about 8" high. Even then I still needed to fabricate a 1-1/2 spacer.

Look at my build thread about half way down this page to see how I did it.

You will also still need to trim about 1" of the output shaft of the 4R70W before mating the Atlas II.

What is everybody doing for a crossmember using and Atlas II? Off the shelf work or I presume I will need to make one?

I tried to use the Bronco Hut one when I did my swap and it didn't work. I would suggest building/having one built for that install. Depending on body lift, EBID, exhaust routing, and on and on, lots of factors to get it right if that is what you are looking for.

I used stock bronco mounting locations, and a stock 4r70w trans mount, that way if I break it, I can just go get one from the parts store.

This has got to be one of the nicest solutions I have seen yet to hang the Atlas II/4R70W. I wish you were mass producing them when I did mine. :)

71, Thanks for the reply you threads are extremely helpful.

Have you made a decision on what shifter to use? The winters shifter is far cheaper but I like the looks of the Lokar shifter with the manual shift feature, $250 compared to $500 roughly.
