Toms Bronco disc brake kit? Warn hubs?

Hey all, I have a complete Toms Bronco Parts disc brake kit new in box that I got along with my Bronco when I bought it a month ago. I also have the receipt. I would like to hear some pros and cons if any of you have the kit.

I got:

Dana44 disc brake kit (part #2430, $510 - includes hubs, rotors, seals, spindles, calipers, pads, hoses, and caliper supports)
Wheel Bearings (part #2437, $48 - includes inner and outer bearings)
Power brake booster no modify kit (part #7045, $425 - includes booster/master cylinder/bracket assembly, brake lines, and all hardware)
Brake proportioning valve (part #2625 and 2630, $104 - includes valve and bracket)

Total $1087.00 plus shipping

The one thing I do not see in the kit and on the instructions it says I MUST use is Warn locking hubs. I looked on their site, but there is no info regarding this kit. I am wondering if it matters which Warn hub I use, I know there are two styles, the cheaper version and the premium version, I would rather use the better. And where should I buy the hubs from? I would like to support the site by purchasing through a supporting vendor if possible.

Any info is greatly appreciated, FordFanStan

same as above ^^^^^
That's the standard-issue disc brake conversion. Most everyone sells some version of it. I *think* there was a thread recently saying you could use your stock hubs with some adjustment? Eh, in any event, I used Warn premiums.

I have the Tom's 4 wheel power disk set-up, and got the Warn Premium hubs at the same time. Work great.

What about the knuckles? If that's the big bronco/f150 kit, don't you need to change the knuckles as well?

The kit I have utilizes GM parts?

If that is the case I would rather sell and get something else. May sound kinda cheesy, but I am really that touchy about my Fords, hence my name lol. FFS

What would you take for the entire kit, I don't mind Chevy brakes. ANything is better than the stock non powered drums

You can reuse your stock locking hubs, there is no reason to buy new weaker hubs. The only reason they say you can't in the instructions is to get people to buy new hubs. The stock spicer hubs are stronger than any of the new aftermarket hubs.

Well it looks like I can still use the Bronco style power booster and master cylinder setup, so the only thing I would like to exchange is the complete disc brake kit and the wheel bearings for the Ford style I looked at from Duff and BCB, ( Thank you for that info hdmc  ). Paid $510+48= $558 + shipping. I guess I could sell both for $520 + shipping? A $40 dollar discount? Everything I have is still new in the box too. FFS

Personally I have that kit on my rig and it is great I am a true to the bones ford guy myself, but i went with this kit because it is cheaper and I believe performs better than the ford brakes.

Not trying to discredit you in any way, but have you had the Ford brakes, or compared the two yourself, or seen any third party comparisons? I understand it is cheaper, and that does sound better believe me I am a only a college student lol, but looking at the differences between the larger later Ford knuckles and the stock knuckles makes me wonder, and yes I know some of the info from those afore-mentioned websites is plain ol' advertising and sales pitches, but I think it may be true that the larger knuckles are stronger? And due to the fact they are supplied with those kits, it makes sense they are higher priced.

This isn't my first project, and I know numerous times over that doing things two, three, and four times is not fun and is that much more expensive as well, and usually it is because you wanted to save a buck or two here or there. I have rebuilt my drag race truck so many times its not funny and currently in the process of doing it again now. So I just want to find some high quality parts that last and work well. Thank you for your reply. FFS

How often do you hear about someone breaking a knuckle? Yes it happens but I haven't seen any more of the stock bronco knuckles broken then anything else. I've never had the ford 1/2 ton brakes but I do have a truck with the ford 3/4 ton dual piston brakes and I would take the chevy brakes any day, even on the 3/4 ton. My bronco has the chevy brakes and will put you into the windshield under heavy braking, that's with 35s and rear brakes that are there in theory only.

Thank you Brewchief  . I haven't heard of any knuckles breaking either, I am new to this community, but I know that anything is possible and I hate when things break. Especially when things break at an event or on the trail so I just wanted to make sure I had some good parts. It seems the consensus of these parts is that they work, and work well so I guess I can give them a shot, it just really irks me to know that it is a GM style of part on my truck. I will keep it hush hush and not tell anyone though and if I need to get new pads I'll order them by part number, not by make of vehicle ;D . I'm am not looking to go "all out" on my Bronco anyhow.

Thank you everyone for replying, I am really glad to be a part of this forum and hope to learn and share a lot more from all of you. FordFanStan

I think that's a wise choice really. There obviously is not a whole lot of difference betweent he chevy and ford versions, because thy both work on our EBs.

I definately wouldn't loose money over it. Install that kit and post a pic of the big ole grin on your face when you test out your brakes for the first time.

Yes ANY 1/2 t lockout will work. The cheap ford/warn ones. the premium warn or MM, the superwinch or the old all steel spicers which is what I change all my later model stuff because they are tougher.

Are the "kits" really that much. Just did a chevy style conversion for around $100 sure they were used parts but so what. And did the 8 lug one ton on the big bronco for about the same

I did the "gm" conversion also. The STOCK hub locks did not fit quite right. I bought Milemarker Supremes ...Love 'em.

Remember , those "Chebby" parts are not really "Chebby" , they are DANA parts that they sold to the General. Otherwise I'm certain they would not fit at all.

Now that I have two Bronc's and have done an Exploder EFI swap , I'm looking at junkyards more and more.

Currently looking for a CHEEP NV3550 . hahaha - yeah right :)
