Far too many left wingers in Durango for me. Casino in Ignacio is fun. You might Google "atving in Durango" to locate some places. Mesa Verde Cliff Dwellings Park is west of Durango a few miles.

About an hour north is the Silverton-Telluride-Ouray area of the San Juan Mtns. No better place in the higher altitudes to 4x4 and ATV ride. Higher passes will still be snowed in but plenty of lower places to ride. Hundreds of ATVs in that area in the summer.

^ x infinity re silverton/ ouray/ telluride. Mesa verde also good but can be crowded. Not atv but the Durango silverton train is a tourist trap and not that cheap but great vistas and well worth the time. Get right hand side seating up to silverton and bus back to Durango. Can all be booked online.

What they said ^^^, eat at the Bent Elbow while you're in Silverton. Couple miles north of Durango, there's a glider place........it was worth the money. Flown many times, but that was my only glider experience, would recommend.

Thanks for the suggestions it sounds like Silverton is the place for ATV riding I might have to go up there after first day in Durango. I will check out the bent elbow.

Thanks

Looks like the glider place shut down last year. Owner retired and couldn't find anyone to take it over.

I'd second the Durango to Silverton train. Scenes from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid were shot on that train.

Telluride is a couple hours away, but they have some beautiful roads/passes that run up the mountains just outside town. Imogene Pass and Tomboy Road. There also a festival of some sort almost every weekend in town. Speaking of Butch and Sundance, they also robbed a bank in Telluride.

Ride the train. It's worth it, but I like trains.

Fish the Animas.

River Rafting

Lots of hiking trails

Historic/touristy downtown area.

And of course take the million dollar highway to Silverton and Ouray.

Well I hadn't heard that, been a couple of years since we were there. Thanks for the heads up!

You can also take the train up, then bus back, or vise versa..........
