Shifter part number 71560, AA kit: 715630, Rod #’s: 715663, 715661, 715662. The rods didn’t work for me at all though, had to make some from bar stock from Lowe’s. Sorry it took so long, lot of receipts! Toms still has it I believe

I have a ‘68 with289. I had the column 3 speed pulled and replaced with a smooth toploader (non overdrive). The transmission cam with a Hurst Competition Plus shifter installed. I was having shifting difficulties…(often needed to double clutch to downshift into 1st and 4th to 3rd was also tough. The mechanic indicated that the shifter install components were not right for the truck. Although skeptical, I went ahead and sent away for a new Hurst installation kit specific to the toploader. In spite of being excited and relieved to get it, I realize now that the new shift rods are too short. (Model #3737638)
I've shifted on a couple of other Bronco with Toploader/Hurst combo and they were great.
It seems like setting this up should be within normal human capabilities.
Do some toploader require longer rods than others. Is the a specific kit for Toploader in Broncos?
What am I missing here?
