Transfer Case Output Speedo Gear Replacement...

My speedo gear on the output shaft appears to be worn down so I need to replace it to have a speedo. I stuck my finger in the hole (OK, no jokes!) and could feel the gear was worn. I then got my inspection mirror and confirmed it. Now I know why the speedo hasn't been working after rebuilding the speedo head and checking the gear/cable! All else seems good.

Anyway, how tough is it to change the gear? Do I need to drain the fluid? ...pull a bearing? Where can I buy a new gear?

Any help would be.....well......helpful!
Thanks,
Mike

You will have to pull the rear output shaft housing I would loosen the yoke nut first then pull the housing be careful there are roller bearings in the end of the shaft 11 I think it is easy for them to fall in the case if they do you'll have to pull the side cover to get them out. then press the shaft out of the housing and you should be able to pull the speedo gear off it may have some shims between it and the rear9outer) bearing make sure you dont loose them then just replace speedo gear and reassemble use some grease to hold the roller bearings inplace for reassembly.
Try Toms Bronco parts for the speedo gear or a transmission shop.
