I have done a search and know what to cut for the j-shifter to put in the twin stick. What I havent found is what exactly holds the shifter arms into the U shaped slots on the rails of the transfercase? Are they held there when the shifter is tightened to the x-case? Do they need to be tack welded? I plan on doing this upgrade this weekend so any help would be appreciated. thanks again.

Once its bolted to the transfer case it will hold its self. Dont weld the ends of the shifters to the flags, you may wont to remove the shifter some day.

As stated, once bolted the arms will be in place, if welded you will not shift it.
follow the instructions and you should have no problems.
