Chris, Thanks for the offer but I need a Tig welder. My Mig just is not going to give me the quality weld I want for this job.

I didn't have to mess with the inner fender. The corners show just a bit but not to bad.

Thanks everyone for the comments. I am glad that everyone seems to like it. that means I am on the right track. I really didn't want to cut it but I had to. I like the body line and I am really happy that I will be able to keep it.
My wife asked me what I was going to do if it still hits the tire. I responded with " I'll go to a 5'' lift." she went back in the house.

Thanks
Bax

Hey Bax, that thing looks awesome!!! Do you still need these other cut outs I have? Are you working Monday? If not I may have to load up and finally come see this thing in person. Alex if you want to ride along you are more than welcome. Just let me know.

Mark, you and Alex are welcome anytime. I'm not cleaning the shop up for you though. If I don't screw up I may not need the cutouts you have. I went ahead and used peices from my truck. I'm not working on Monday. You got rear disk's over here, don't forget.

Bax, that is one of the coolest Mod's I have ever seen! I might be able to get my hands on a Tig Welder. If I can I will bring it up next weekend if you still need it.

More Pictures

OK more pictures. The quarter panel is welded and I think it looks good. I dug out my step tool and made a step along the panel where I needed to weld it. It flushed up the panel really good and I was able to get a good setting on the mig welder so I welded it. Got a bunch of good flat welds and a few crappy welds too. i have been taking a bunch of pictures. Here are a few.

Question - if anyone made these panels, do you think they would sell? Think of the cost a little higher than a replacement QT panel.

I'm having fun. Oh yeah, I got some "Body Damage" too. Wife wanted me to get stiches but I didn't want to go. So I taped it up and it should be fine. I should of got pictures of it ,I know.

Man...that just looks too cool! Great job Bax! It's going to look awesome when she all done. If you were to mass produce these, I think that you would sell a ton of them. Great, great idea!!

what - no close ups of the welds;D

Did you happen to articulate the truck just to see how high the rear tires would go?

Very cool. One question though. What are you doing to close that void where the original contour starts and the new one? Seems dirt and mud will get in there and cause rust issues.

Lets see,Broncow72 posted the link to the step tool. Mark Troy, thats what mine looks like. The one on the link is real cheap too.
Broncow72 the void you asked about was a concern of mine too. I punched 3 plug weld holes in the panel end. I shaped a peice of sheet metal to fit the space, next I bent a 90 on it and slid the whole piece behind the panel. This filled the hole/space. I plug welded the angle to the panel to lock it in place. I also seam sealed it from the inside, before I put on the end cap / tail light piece. So I think I got that part covered.
Brian wanted to see welds, nothing like being called out, Im not bragging, their not great but they cleaned up good.
