Upper radiator hose for Explorer conversion?

So I'm slowly piecing together my explorer conversion. I've got a 2001 5.0 with a Champion reverse flow radiator. Based on previous threads, I picked up a Gates 21159 for the upper radiator hose and a Gates 20841 for the lower. The lower worked out pretty nicely with some trimming, however I think the Champion reverse flow radiator is slightly less wide than the Ron Davis, etc radiators and therefore the 21159 is about 3" too long on the horizontal run (pictured).

I looked at my local Napa, autozone, etc stock and nothing seemed to look like it'd work any better. Before I cut/splice the 21159, I was hoping others might chime in as to what worked for them. I recall a few threads where the hose does a 45 degree turn in front of the alternator, etc vs a couple 90 degree turns over top of the alternator.

I believe the 21159 is the Fox Body mustang hose.
