I've been doing research on valve adjustment for my 302 with non adjustable studs (positive stop). Whats the correct technique for adjusting them? I thought I knew the right way to do it and now my bronco is running worse than when I started the adjustment (guess my memory sucks). Here is a picture of my setup. Lots of contradicting information from doing research on the forum

What I think its supposed to be after reading some more is make sure both valves are closed and torque to 20 ft lbs

I've never installed a set of these before, but generally do you have around 1/2-1 turn after the lifters begin to preload when the nuts hit the stops? This of course is with the piston at TDC so both valves are closed.

My initial thought is the two pictured look too tight, I usually back the nut off until the rocker arm clacks and then tighten half a turn. This will get you close. That oil does not look good.

On top of that lifter is that the oil, the milky color ?
If it is you have a whole other problem

My hood is yellow, the oil is reflecting it. Its black, just looks milkshakey in the photo. Thanks for the concern lol, I would have stopped messing with rockers if I had milkshake oil lol.

Here is a photo of the rocker stud. When I put the rocker ball/pivot on the stud it falls all the way to the bottom of the stud. Guessthis means I don't have positive stop.

That's a positive stop stud. Maybe the wrong size rockers?
Thanks, I'll check the rocker to see if it stops. I took the pivot ball out and thats what slid to the bottom of the stud. Do I just torque these to 20 ft lbs when the valve closes fully?

The valve will be way too tight by the time you get it to 20 ft. lbs.
The pivot ball shouldn't have a big enough hole to drop past the step in the stud.

The rocker fell past the stud, I adjusted them using the method from the video I posted and its running good. I've got one lifter on an exhaust valve that is noisy. Going to make sure its not a header gasket before I try and figure out how to quiet down the lifter

Both the pivot and rocker slid down past the collar. I'll run these for a while and shop for maybe some E7 heads in the meantime.

rocker arms

302 rockers dont run all the way down like some ford motors, adjust with valve closed spin push rod by fingers and tighten rocker til it has drag then turn about a half turn more.
