Yes. But the way I understand it, they weren’t available initially for the first couple of months of production.
I’m sure someone will come in with the exact serial number of the first 289. In the meantime, Bronco Ohio doesn’t always have the best reputation for their listings. They’re great, and a good reference. But they’re not 100% accurate, not 100% complete, and don’t seem to ever have been updated in the many years that we’ve been using them as a reference.
We have members here who are extremely knowledgeable in this and have accurate and updated databases. I’m sure some of them will pop in here and join the discussion soon.

Do you actually have a 66 with a 289? Or are you looking to get one by chance?
If you want to know more about your 66, okie4570 is your go-to information source.
Does it still have the Data/Warranty Plate riveted to the drivers kick panel?

And regarding the 289, you can tell if it’s original or not by the engine code in the VIN. That would settle the argument whether one was original or not.

Cool. Have you already verified the engine code in the VIN? I forget which letter indicates whether it came with a six, or an eight, but it's right there in the first few (5?) digits.
I think BroncoOhio can at least be counted on to provide the basic Ford nomenclature, but if you want the full details (since a Marti Report is not available for '66 models) then okie can give you as much as you can get.
If you don't already have it, that is.
