I've never been a big fan of ampmeters, and since the orignal is broken and I'm modifying the wiring harness anyway, I had the idea of removing the ampmeter guts from the speedo guage housing and swapping in the guts of a small (2" or 2 1/16" dia) aftermarket voltmeter, if I can't find a stock Ford (or whatever) voltmeter that'll fit in the opening.

I know it's not going to be a simple R & R (unless I can find a stock voltmeter guage that'll fit in the Bronco speedo), but a little modification doesn't worry me.

Anybody know of a stock application that uses a voltmeter in the vertical position that might bolt into place of the ampmeter?

Chuck (of BC Broncos fame) and I have been working this very issue since the beginning of the year. Haven’t found a suitable donor(s) yet… Even spent the morning going through new/old gauges at the Pomona Swap meet. Will let all know when we find a good candidate.

I ran a "main power" line (8-gage) through the Ampmeter into my Tuffy Console and to the Cigar Lighter. My Tuffy Console houses an FM/CD Player, 200W Amp, CB ... etc. With this setup, I can see what I'm pulling when cranking the tunes or running accessories from the cigar lighter socket. My 3G Alternator connects directly to the battery ... the only way to go for maximum charging circuit efficiency.
