water pump sealant

I'm installing a new FlowKoole water pump. Instructions say"If there is a backing plate, tighten as required & seal as needed." On line a guy took the two bolts off and applied sealant to both sides off the gasket that goes between the pump housing and the backing plate. Does that gasket require sealant? The FlowKooler instructions state to "Position pump-to-block gaskets and apply sealer on both sides. What sealant and do I apply sealant to both the gasket between the backing plate and pump housing and the pump housing to the timing chain housing? Thanks

I use just a very light coat of Gasgasinch on the pump and pump side of the gaskets. That’s to hold the gasket in place for assembly. Then I just wet the gasket with RTV on the timing cover side. That’s because the Gaskasinch is so difficult to clean off next time.

On old engines do not trust gasket only.

Good advice above... I just installed a FlowKooler a few months back, very happy with its performance, you're going to like it!
